A Kadıköy hotel puts you on the same shore as Sabiha Gökçen, about 35 km away by road with no bridge, tunnel or Bosphorus toll in between. It also puts you at the first station of the M4 metro, which runs underground to the terminal. For many flights the cheap option works; this page covers the hours when it doesn't, and the streets where a car cannot wait.
Pickup Times for a Sabiha Gökçen Flight
The airport asks you to arrive 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, and airlines close their check-in counters 60 minutes (international) or 45 minutes (domestic) before departure. With 35 minutes of driving on a clear road and up to 90 in the weekday rush (07:00–10:00 and 16:30–20:00), we plan pickups about 4–4¼ hours before an international flight.
| International flight at | Pickup, roughly | What else runs then |
|---|---|---|
| 06:00 | 01:45–02:00 | E-10 night bus; M4 only on Friday and Saturday nights |
| 09:00 | 04:45–05:00 | Havabüs from 03:15 (04:15 at weekends); no M4 in time |
| 13:00 | 08:45–09:00 | M4 and Havabüs; morning rush, so take the early end |
| 21:00 | 16:45–17:00 | M4 and Havabüs; evening rush, so take the early end |
Rough suggestions from our own rule (airport advice, plus the drive, plus a margin); your airline's advice comes first. Ask us on WhatsApp and we suggest a pickup time.
Flying From Istanbul Airport Instead?
From Kadıköy, Istanbul Airport (IST) is on the other side of the Bosphorus: about 55 minutes on an empty road and much longer in traffic, so plan to leave about 4½–5 hours before an international flight. Our car costs from €56 on Kadıköy to Istanbul Airport.
M4, Havabüs, Night Bus, Taxi or Our Car
M4 Metro From the First Station
Trains leave Kadıköy from 06:00 to 23:59 and take about 52 minutes. The first arrives at about 06:52, too late for an international flight before about 10:00 or a domestic one before about 09:00. On Friday and Saturday nights trains run every 30 minutes from 00:30 to 05:30 at a double fare of ≈€1.65 (₺92.40). A ride costs ≈€0.85 (₺46.20) with an Istanbulkart (≈€3 / ₺165 for the card) or ≈€1.15 (₺65) by bank card. One large suitcase plus one cabin case per passenger travel free; a second suitcase costs an extra fare. At the airport, use the station's terminal exit.
Havabüs SG-1 From the Pier
The airport coach leaves from the Kadıköy Rıhtım bus stops by the ferry piers at 03:15 (04:15 at weekends), 04:15, 04:45, 05:15 and 06:00, then about every 45 minutes until 23:15, and takes about 60 minutes. Pay as you board: ≈€5.50 (₺300) with an Istanbulkart or ≈€7 (₺385) by bank card; no cash and no advance tickets. Bags go in the hold, and a coach may not leave exactly on time.
E-10 Night Bus
İETT's E-10 leaves Kadıköy at 01:15, 02:15, 03:45 and 04:55 and runs via Bostancı, Pendik and Kurtköy, about 1.5 hours, for ≈€1.65 (₺92.40). It has little room for luggage; check İETT's timetable for your date.
Taxi
A yellow taxi costs about €32–41 (₺1,800–2,300) on the meter in normal traffic (≈€1.30 / ₺71.94 to start, ≈€0.85 / ₺47.92 per km, no night rate). There is no bridge or tunnel toll; if the driver takes the TEM motorway, ≈€0.90 (₺49) is added. Carry some lira in case the card terminal fails; for an early start, ask your hotel to order one the evening before.
Our Private Transfer
From €53 for the whole Mercedes Vito (6 passengers, 7 suitcases), one way, with the exact price for your date and pickup time shown before you pay and no extra charge for traffic or flight delays. A Sprinter takes 15 passengers and 20 suitcases.
Which One Makes Sense
- M4: one or two people with a suitcase each, near the pier, flying after about 10:00.
- Havabüs: bigger bags on a budget, or an early flight near the pier.
- Taxi: one or two people with light bags; usually cheaper than our car.
- Our car: families, groups, a second suitcase each, a flight before the M4 starts, or a hotel in Moda or off Bahariye.
Pier, Bahariye, Moda or Bağdat Caddesi: Where the Driver Waits
Be in the lobby with your luggage a few minutes early; the driver comes to the hotel entrance and contacts you on WhatsApp. Where cars cannot reach the door:
- Pier and market streets: the Bahariye pedestrian street and much of the market area are closed to cars, so the driver waits on the nearest open road and your bags travel a short way by hand.
- Moda: narrow streets with little room to stop; a nearby corner is usually best.
- Caddebostan, Suadiye and Bostancı: hotels near Bağdat Caddesi normally have kerbside or side-street pickups.
- Kozyatağı: business hotels near the D-100, an easy stop.
Mention a pedestrian street in the booking notes and the driver tells you where to meet nearby; a WhatsApp location pin helps if your hotel is hard to find.
The Drive East: D-100 or TEM
The car leaves Kadıköy via Göztepe and Kozyatağı and continues through Kartal and Pendik, either on the D-100 or on the O-4 (TEM) inland. Most delay is in the first half, around Kozyatağı and Göztepe and on the Kartal to Pendik stretch. Streets around Fenerbahçe's Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium are busier on match days; if one falls on your flying day, tell us so the pickup time allows for it.
At Sabiha Gökçen
SAW has one terminal with separate international and domestic departure floors, so tell your driver which one you need. Kerb parking is forbidden there, so the driver drops you at departures and helps your bags to the door. Inside come screening, check-in, passport control for international flights and a final X-ray; a Tax Free refund is done before check-in. With a low-cost airline, check the cabin-bag rules before pickup.
Booking, Paying and Cancelling
Book on the Kadıköy to Sabiha Gökçen Airport route page with the hotel name and street. Child seats cost five euros per seat. The payment page shows the options for your booking and the exact amount of each before you confirm: card online (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) on iyzico's secure 3D Secure page, so we never see card details; cash to the driver in euros, US dollars, pounds sterling or Turkish lira; or a card guarantee online with the rest in cash (how to pay). Cancelling is free up to 24 hours before pickup; from 6 to 24 hours, up to 50% of the one-way price; under 6 hours, the full price may be charged. Date and time changes are possible until 24 hours before pickup. Book both ways together and the return part gets a discount (return transfers); the trip to the airport costs the same as the trip from it.
