Heading home from the Tüpraş refinery at Hacılar, you start the journey in Kırıkkale province and finish it at the Esenboğa departures entrance. A refinery visit rarely ends exactly when the diary says it will. Meetings overrun, inspections wait on a signature, and a safety briefing can add an unplanned hour. Because the Hacılar plant is about a hundred kilometres from Esenboğa, the sensible approach is to fix the flight first and then work backwards, leaving a margin for the part of the day you do not control.

The road back towards Ankara
You leave Hacılar towards Kırıkkale and rejoin the main road west into the capital. The first hour is generally quick and uneventful. The slow part comes at the other end, where the route meets Ankara's ring road and the airport approach; on weekday evenings that stretch can fill with commuters and be much slower than the open road behind you. That is the part we ask you to leave extra time for.
If you are flying out in the early morning, the picture is reversed: the road is empty and the question is how early you are willing to start. A pickup well before dawn is easy to arrange, but tell us at the time of booking, not the night before.
Terminal drop-off at Esenboğa
The driver takes you to the departures entrance on the side your flight uses, international or domestic, and helps you with your bags. Check-in desks open at their own times, so arriving a long way ahead of an international flight may mean a wait; that is better than the opposite, given the distance you are coming from.
Why not a bus or a taxi
Going by bus means getting to the Kırıkkale terminal, riding into Ankara and then finding a way out to the airport, which is a poor plan with a suitcase and a flight to catch. A street taxi will not know your site's gate arrangements, and you would have to settle the fare for a long run on the spot. Changing plans on the day

Keep your passport or ID to hand for the gate on the way out and the airport on the way in.
📍 Tüpraş Rafinerisi: the Kırıkkale oil refinery at Hacılar
Tüpraş Rafinerisi on this page means Tüpraş's Kırıkkale refinery, also known as the Central Anatolia refinery. It lies outside Ankara province, at the small town of Hacılar in Kırıkkale province, on the west bank of the Kızılırmak river south of the city of Kırıkkale.
Opened in 1986, it can process around five million tonnes of crude oil a year, delivered by pipeline from the Ceyhan terminal on the Mediterranean, and was built to supply Ankara and the rest of Central Anatolia. Hacılar also has the Kapulukaya Dam, a thermal power station and part of Kırıkkale University, while the city of Kırıkkale is the nearest place with a choice of hotels.
- Secure site: as at any refinery, entry is controlled; the car stops at the security gate, so arrange your visit with your host beforehand.
- Not in Ankara: the refinery is in Kırıkkale province, east of the capital; Tüpraş has no refinery in Ankara itself.
- Address: documents may say Hacılar or Kırıkkale; the refinery name is the clearest destination.

The drive takes about 85 minutes without traffic.
