How to Get from Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen Airport
Short answer: from the Galataport cruise terminal to Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) it is about 41–51 km by road across the Bosphorus, roughly 45–75 minutes outside rush hour. With cruise luggage, a pre-booked private transfer or a taxi is the practical choice: a private transfer costs from €52 per vehicle (Mercedes Vito, up to 6 passengers), and a yellow taxi runs about €38–45 (₺2,100–2,500) on the meter plus the bridge or tunnel toll. Public transport works for light packers (about €2–3 / ₺111–175 and 1½ hours with a visitor's Istanbulkart), but it means a ferry or tram, a metro and several changes. For an international flight, plan to be at SAW 3 hours before departure, so choose a flight about 4–5 hours after your disembarkation slot.

Galataport is on the European side, on the Karaköy–Tophane waterfront; Sabiha Gökçen is on the Asian side, past Pendik. Between them lie the Bosphorus, the city's heaviest traffic and your ship's disembarkation queue. Below you will find every way to make the trip, what each costs, where cars and taxis collect passengers at the port, and how much time to leave before your flight.
Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen: all options at a glance
| Option | Time | Cost (2026) | Changes | With cruise luggage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | ~45–75 min* | from €52 per vehicle | None | Best: space for the whole group |
| Yellow taxi | ~45–75 min* | ≈€38–45 (₺2,100–2,500) + toll | None | Good if the cases fit |
| Walk, ferry to Kadıköy, M4 | ~1½ hours | ≈€2 (₺111) | 2 | Poor |
| T1 tram, Marmaray, M4 | ~1½ hours (our estimate) | ≈€3 (₺175) | 2 | Poor |
| T1, F1 funicular, Havabüs from Taksim | ~2 hours | ≈€10.50 (₺577) | 2 | Fair |
*Road times assume normal traffic; weekday rush hours, bridge queues and a morning when several ships disembark at once can add a lot. Public-transport fares are for a visitor's anonymous Istanbulkart, which pays the full fare on every ride; the card itself costs extra. The private-transfer price is per vehicle, not per person, and the exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay.
Private transfer from Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen
A private transfer from Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen is built for disembarkation day. Your driver waits just outside the cruise terminal; once you have disembarked, the driver messages you on WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and a short video, then loads your cases and drives straight to the airport. Drivers speak English, and the pickup is planned around your disembarkation time, so you are not hunting for a taxi after a long morning of queues.
The price is per vehicle: a Mercedes Vito takes up to 6 passengers with luggage, a Sprinter suits larger groups, and a Mercedes V-Class is the VIP option. Child seats are available on request. There is no extra charge for traffic, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup. Please give us your ship's name and your disembarkation time when you book.
How cars reach you: according to Galataport's 2026 pick-up procedure, cars and Vito-size vehicles enter without prior permission through the Mimar Sinan (Fındıklı) side, go down to the underground P1 car park and collect passengers at the terminal passenger exit, without entering the terminal. Larger vehicles such as Sprinters and tour buses cannot use P1; they use a separate terminal car park reached by the Tophane ramp, which needs advance registration and a time slot given by the car-park operator. If your group is bigger than six, tell us when you book so we can arrange it. For more on the handover, see meeting your driver at Galataport.
It works the other way round too: Sabiha Gökçen to Galataport is from €57 per vehicle for your embarkation day. See all fares on our Galataport transfer page.
Taxi from the cruise terminal to SAW
Istanbul's yellow taxis run on the city meter: ≈€1.30 (₺71.94) to start, then ≈€0.85 (₺47.92) per km, with a minimum fare of ≈€4 (₺230) and a time charge of ≈€11 (₺598.90) an hour when traffic crawls. There is no night rate. Turquoise and black taxis charge more per km (≈€1 / ₺55.10 and ≈€1.45 / ₺81.46). Our estimate for Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen is ≈€38–45 (₺2,100–2,500) before tolls, based on a 41.5 km route over a Bosphorus bridge or a 50.6 km alternative; it is a calculation from the tariff, not an official fare.
Tolls come on top and the passenger pays them. A crossing of the 15 Temmuz or FSM bridge costs ≈€1.05 (₺59); the Avrasya tunnel is listed at ≈€6 (₺330) by day (05:00–23:59) and ≈€3 (₺165) between 00:00 and 04:59, and the toll figures change, so check the amounts on the road signs. Ask the driver which crossing the meter will follow.
Where to find a taxi at Galataport
Galataport's official site plan, part of its 2026 pick-up procedure, marks a taxi rank on Meclis-i Mebusan Caddesi in front of Block E, next to the Block D terminal entrance and the bus stop. Expect a queue when several ships disembark in the same morning; the galataport.com ship schedule shows what is in port. Insist on the meter and do not agree a flat price with anyone who approaches you. If you prefer to book by app, Uber and BiTaksi both dispatch licensed taxis.
Card payment: every taxi must have a card terminal linked to the meter by 16 November 2026, with a further 15 days to start accepting cards, so until then keep some cash. Large cruise cases fill a standard taxi quickly, so check that your bags fit before setting off. If you would rather not gamble on the rank, book a Galataport to SAW transfer in advance.
Public transport from Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen
All the routes below cross to the Asian side and then take the M4 metro, which is the only rail link to SAW. It runs from Kadıköy to the airport in about 52 minutes, with the first train at 06:00 and the last at 23:59 from both ends, and a train every 4–10 minutes on weekdays. On Friday and Saturday nights it also runs every 30 minutes between 00:30 and 05:30 at a double fare (≈€1.65 / ₺92.40). Details are in our Sabiha Gökçen M4 metro guide.
- Walk, ferry and M4 (≈€2 / ₺111, about 1½ hours): walk 8–13 minutes to the Karaköy ferry pier, take the ferry to Kadıköy (≈€1.15 / ₺65.21 with an Istanbulkart), walk about 300 m to the M4 station and ride to the airport for ≈€0.85 (₺46.20). This is scenic and cheap, but you carry your bags over cobbles and piers, and the ferries do not run all night, so check the current Şehir Hatları timetable.
- T1 tram, Marmaray and M4 (≈€3 / ₺175, about 1½ hours by our estimate): walk about 6 minutes to the Tophane tram stop, take the T1 to Sirkeci (≈€0.85 / ₺46.20), then the Marmaray under the Bosphorus to Ayrılık Çeşmesi, two stops (≈€0.65 / ₺37.40), and change to the M4 for the airport (≈€0.85 / ₺46.20). It is weather-proof and it keeps working after the ferries have stopped, but there are stairs and changes with your luggage. There is no official end-to-end journey time.
- T1, F1 funicular and Havabüs (≈€10.50 / ₺577, about 2 hours): ride the T1 to Kabataş and the F1 funicular up to Taksim, then take the Havabüs coach (≈€8.50 / ₺485 with an Istanbulkart) from the Gezi Park metro exit. The coach has room for luggage, but it is the dearest option and is slow in traffic. You can also walk about 22 minutes uphill to Taksim and pay only the coach fare. The coaches from Taksim leave every 30 minutes, from 03:00 on weekdays (03:30 at weekends) until 22:00; check havabus.com for the latest times.
Visitor Istanbulkart rule: an anonymous card pays the full fare on every leg, with no transfer discount, and the Marmaray gate refund does not apply to it. A contactless bank card costs ≈€1.15 (₺65) a ride on metro and tram. On the metro, each passenger may take one large suitcase plus one cabin case or small backpack free of charge; a second suitcase costs an extra fare, and no single item may weigh over 30 kg. Cases must stay out of aisles and off seats.
Honestly: this suits one or two light bags and plenty of spare time. With two or more big cruise cases, or on a tight schedule, take a taxi or a transfer.
How much time to allow before your flight
Sabiha Gökçen asks you to arrive 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one. Check-in closes 60 minutes before an international departure and 45 minutes before a domestic one. SAW has one terminal with separate international and domestic halls, so go to the right one when you arrive.
Work backwards from the flight, counting four blocks of time:
- Your disembarkation slot, not the time the ship docks.
- Collecting cases and passport control in the underground terminal: allow up to an hour, and more when several ships are in port.
- The drive: 45–75 minutes, longer at weekday rush hours.
- Time at SAW: 3 hours international, 2 hours domestic.
As a rough guide, which is our own estimate and not a cruise-line rule, choose a flight about 5 hours after your disembarkation slot if it is international, and about 4 hours if it is domestic. Your ship's daily programme gives the real disembarkation time. If your flight is in the evening, Easy Point left luggage at the Block D entrance and on the P1 level has lockers by the hour, so you can see the old city first. A taxi or transfer from there takes the same road to the airport.

Which option suits you?
- Families, groups and anyone with cruise luggage: a private transfer, priced per vehicle, with the driver outside the cruise terminal.
- Two people with light bags and a flexible morning: a taxi from the rank, or the Marmaray route if you want to save money.
- Solo traveller, one backpack, a late flight: the ferry and M4, and enjoy the crossing.
- Landing, not leaving: see our Galataport cruise port guide for routes in both directions, and Galataport taxi prices for fares to the city.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get from Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen Airport?
By road it is about 41–51 km across the Bosphorus, roughly 45–75 minutes outside rush hour, by private transfer or taxi. By public transport, take the ferry from Karaköy to Kadıköy and the M4 metro, or the T1 tram to Sirkeci, the Marmaray to Ayrılık Çeşmesi and the M4. Allow about 1½ hours for either.
How much is a private transfer from Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen?
From €52 per vehicle, not per person. A Mercedes Vito takes up to 6 passengers with luggage. The exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup.
How much is a taxi from Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen?
About €38–45 (₺2,100–2,500) on the meter in a yellow taxi, plus the toll for the Bosphorus bridge (≈€1.05 / ₺59 per crossing) or the Avrasya tunnel. That is our calculation from the 2026 tariff, not an official fare. There is no night rate.
Where do taxis wait at Galataport?
Galataport's 2026 site plan marks a taxi rank on Meclis-i Mebusan Caddesi in front of Block E, next to the Block D terminal entrance. Queues form when several ships disembark at once. Insist on the meter; taxis must accept card payment from 16 November 2026, so carry some cash until then.
Where does my driver meet me at Galataport?
Just outside the cruise terminal. Once you have disembarked, your driver messages you on WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and a short video. Pre-booked cars collect passengers at the terminal passenger exit from the underground P1 car park.
How long should I leave between disembarkation and my flight from SAW?
There is no official rule. SAW asks you to arrive 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one. Add up to an hour for luggage and passport control and 45–75 minutes for the drive: a flight about 5 hours after your disembarkation slot (international) or 4 hours (domestic) is a sensible estimate.
Is there a shuttle from the cruise port to Sabiha Gökçen?
We run private vehicles only, so there is no seat-by-seat shuttle on our side. Public options are the ferry and M4, the T1 tram, Marmaray and M4, or the Havabüs coach from Taksim. If your cruise line sells its own airport transfer, check your booking documents.
Can I take the metro from Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen with cruise luggage?
It is possible, but hard work: ferry or tram, a Marmaray or ferry change and the M4, with stairs. Each passenger may take one large suitcase plus one cabin case or small backpack free on the metro, a second suitcase costs an extra fare, and no item may weigh over 30 kg. A taxi or transfer is easier with two or more big cases.
Is there left luggage at Galataport?
Yes. Easy Point, at the Visitor Center by the Block D entrance and on parking level P1, has lockers by the hour for cabin and large cases, which helps if your flight is in the evening.
