Galataport Taxi Prices (2026): Fares to the Airports and the City
Short answer: a metered yellow taxi from Galataport costs about €4–6 (₺230–350) to Taksim, ≈€5–8 (₺270–450) to Sultanahmet and ≈€4–7 (₺230–400) to Beşiktaş. The airports are far more: ≈€40–50 (₺2,200–2,800) to Istanbul Airport (IST) and ≈€38–45 (₺2,100–2,500) to Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), plus the bridge or tunnel toll on the Asian side. The tariff is the official İBB one (from 20 July 2026), with no night rate. Taxis wait at the rank on Meclis-i Mebusan Caddesi beside the terminal entrance. For the airports, a private transfer costs from €44 per vehicle to IST and from €52 to SAW, for up to 6 passengers, and is cheaper than two taxis for a group.

Most cruise passengers only need one taxi price: the one to the airport, or to the hotel. This guide gives both for the Galataport cruise terminal in Karaköy, plus the tariff behind them, where taxis and cars actually pick up, how to pay and when a pre-booked transfer is the better value. The district fares are our own estimates, explained below the table; the tariff itself is official.
Galataport taxi fares at a glance
These are the amounts a yellow taxi's meter should show from the cruise terminal in normal traffic, in either direction.
| Destination | Distance by road | Yellow taxi (estimate) | Toll on top |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taksim | about 1.8 km | ≈€4–6 (₺230–350) | none |
| Beşiktaş | about 3.2 km | ≈€4–7 (₺230–400) | none |
| Sultanahmet | about 4.1 km | ≈€5–8 (₺270–450) | none |
| Eminönü | about 2.7 km | similar to Taksim (minimum fare or a little more) | none |
| Şişli | about 5.2 km | ≈€6–9 (₺330–500) | none |
| Üsküdar | about 12 km | ≈€12–17 (₺650–950) | bridge, ≈€1.05 (₺59) |
| Kadıköy | about 16 km | ≈€15–22 (₺850–1,200) | bridge ≈€1.05 (₺59), or Eurasia Tunnel |
| Istanbul Airport (IST) | about 41–48 km | ≈€40–50 (₺2,200–2,800) | optional on the Northern Marmara Motorway route |
| Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) | about 42–51 km | ≈€38–45 (₺2,100–2,500) | bridge or tunnel |
Estimates, not official fares. We multiplied the route distance (from the OSRM road router, checked 19 October 2026) by the İBB yellow-taxi tariff and added an allowance for slow traffic. The shortest hops (Taksim, Beşiktaş, Eminönü) fall under the minimum fare of ≈€4 (₺230), so that is the floor. The real fare depends on the route the driver picks and on traffic, and tolls are paid on top of the meter.
Going the other way, from a hotel to the cruise terminal, the same ranges apply. If you would rather know the price in advance, see our Galataport transfer page or the route pages for Galataport to Taksim, Sultanahmet, Şişli and Kadıköy.
The Istanbul taxi tariff and the four taxi classes
Every licensed taxi in the city uses the same kind of meter: a start fee, a rate per kilometre and a minimum fare. What changes is the class of taxi.
| Type | Start | Per km | Minimum fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow taxi | ≈€1.30 (₺71.94) | ≈€0.85 (₺47.92) | ≈€4 (₺230) |
| Turquoise taxi | ≈€1.50 (₺82.73) | ≈€1 (₺55.10) | ≈€5 (₺265) |
| Black taxi (luxury) | ≈€2 (₺122.30) | ≈€1.45 (₺81.46) | ≈€7 (₺400) |
| 8-seat taxi | ≈€1.70 (₺93.52) | ≈€1.10 (₺62.29) | ≈€5.50 (₺300) |
Official tariff of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), in force since 20 July 2026. We re-checked the yellow rates on 19 October 2026; the other classes are as published in the same tariff. The tariff has no night rate and no airport or luggage fee.
- Yellow: the standard taxi. All the estimates in this guide are yellow-taxi fares.
- Turquoise: about 15% more per kilometre than yellow.
- Black: the luxury class, about 70% more per kilometre than yellow.
- 8-seat: a minibus-style taxi for bigger parties, about 30% more per kilometre. It is worth asking for, but it is not always available at the front of the queue.
When traffic crawls below 12.5 km/h, the meter switches to a time charge of ≈€11 (₺598.90) an hour in a yellow taxi, roughly €0.20 (₺10) a minute. That matters in rush-hour traffic, and it is also why a late-night run is often cheaper than the same trip at 18:00.
Fare by distance
To sanity-check the meter on any trip, this is what the tariff gives with no traffic charge and no tolls:
| Distance | Yellow taxi | Turquoise taxi |
|---|---|---|
| 10 km | ≈€10 (₺550) | ≈€11.50 (₺630) |
| 20 km | ≈€18.50 (₺1,030) | ≈€21 (₺1,180) |
| 30 km | ≈€27 (₺1,510) | ≈€31 (₺1,740) |
| 40 km | ≈€36 (₺1,990) | ≈€41 (₺2,290) |
| 50 km | ≈€44 (₺2,470) | ≈€51 (₺2,840) |
Where taxis and cars pick up at Galataport
Galataport publishes its rules for transport companies picking up cruise passengers (the 2026 procedure for independent passenger agencies, which includes a site plan). Reading it, the arrangements are different for taxis, for cars and for larger vehicles.
- Taxis: the site plan marks a taxi stand at street level on Meclis-i Mebusan Caddesi, in front of Block E, next to the Block D terminal entrance and the bus stop. Walk out of the terminal and join the queue there. On mornings when several ships disembark at once the queue can be long.
- Pre-booked cars and Mercedes Vitos: they need no prior permission. They enter through the Mimar Sinan (Fındıklı) side, drive down to the underground P1 car park and collect guests at the terminal passenger exit, without entering the terminal. Our driver waits just outside the cruise terminal; once you disembark, the driver messages you on WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and a short video.
- Sprinters, minibuses and coaches: these do not fit under the P1 ceiling. They use the separate Terminal car park through the Tophane ramp behind Istanbul Modern, by prior application, after the ship's own tour operator has finished, and for €30 per entry in 2026. Tell us about a large group when you book so the slot can be arranged.
According to Galataport's 2026 procedure, the underground P1 car park is for private cars and Vitos, and taxis use the street-level stand. The stand's position comes from the site plan in that document; we could not find a separate Galataport statement about the taxi queue.
On embarkation day, tell the driver "Galataport cruise terminal, Block D" and show the address, Meclis-i Mebusan Caddesi No: 8, Beyoğlu. Our Galataport meeting guide covers the drop-off and the pickup step by step.
Paying: card, cash and tolls
Card: taxi card terminals linked to the meter become mandatory on 16 November 2026, after the original deadline was extended, and reports mention a further 15 days for drivers to start accepting cards. Until then, many but not all taxis take cards, so carry enough lira for the fare you expect from the table above. If you plan to pay by card, ask before you get in.
Tolls: they are never part of the meter. On the European side (Taksim, Beşiktaş, Şişli, Sultanahmet, Eminönü) there is no toll. Trips to Üsküdar, Kadıköy or Sabiha Gökçen cross the Bosphorus:
- the 15 Temmuz or Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridge costs ≈€1.05 (₺59) per crossing;
- the Eurasia Tunnel costs ≈€6 (₺330) between 05:00 and 23:59 and ≈€3 (₺165) between 00:00 and 04:59 (published amounts differ between sources, so treat this as a guide);
- on a route to Istanbul Airport, the driver may take the Northern Marmara Motorway (the Yavuz Sultan Selim bridge alone is ≈€2 / ₺110); ask before you set off.
Ask the driver which route they will take and whether it has a toll before you leave the rank.
Avoiding problems: touts, meters and apps
Galataport does not publish anything about touts, so this is general advice for any Istanbul taxi rank, not a reported problem at the terminal.
- Use the rank or an app, not a stranger. Politely decline anyone who approaches you with a ride or a "special price" before you reach the stand.
- Insist on the meter. It should be running when you set off, starting at ≈€1.30 (₺71.94) in a yellow taxi. A quoted flat price for a metered trip is a warning sign, especially for short hops, where the fare is only the minimum of ≈€4 (₺230).
- Agree the destination, not the price. Have your hotel's name and address on your phone with a map pin.
- Check that your luggage fits. Cruise suitcases fill a standard taxi quickly, so check before you load them.
- Note the plate number with a photo, in case you forget something in the car.
Apps: Uber and BiTaksi both book licensed taxis, not private cars, so the same tariff applies. BiTaksi shows a fare estimate in advance. We could not confirm a dedicated app pickup point at Galataport, so the app will normally send you to the street-level stand or the nearest road.
Taxi or private transfer from Galataport?
Here is how the options compare to the two airports. The private transfer is priced per vehicle (a Mercedes Vito takes up to 6 passengers with luggage), not per person, and the exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay.
| Option | To Istanbul Airport | To Sabiha Gökçen |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow taxi (estimate) | ≈€40–50 (₺2,200–2,800) | ≈€38–45 (₺2,100–2,500), plus bridge or tunnel toll |
| Private transfer, per vehicle (up to 6 passengers) | from €44 | from €52 |
| Public transport, visitor Istanbulkart, per person | ≈€2–3.50 (₺113–205) by tram, funicular and metro | ≈€3 (₺175) by T1, Marmaray and M4 |
Public-transport totals are per person, with a visitor (anonymous) Istanbulkart: it gets no transfer discount, so each ride is charged in full, and there is no Marmaray refund at the exit gate. They do not include the card itself, ≈€3 (₺165).
The taxi is the better choice when:
- you are one or two people with light luggage, because a taxi then costs about the same as a transfer;
- you are going a short way, to Taksim, Beşiktaş, Sultanahmet or Eminönü, where the fare is the ≈€4 (₺230) minimum or a little more;
- you have no fixed time, for example after a day in port, and do not mind queuing.
A private transfer usually wins when:
- you are three to six people with cruise luggage, since one Vito replaces two taxis, each with its own meter and, for SAW, its own toll;
- you have a flight to catch on disembarkation day, because your driver is already waiting just outside the terminal, so there is no queue at the stand, and there is no extra charge for traffic;
- you want an English-speaking driver, help with the cases and a car waiting at the terminal exit, rather than a queue at a rank;
- you prefer a Mercedes V-Class for a VIP arrival, or a Sprinter for a group (see the car park rules above).
Taxi or transfer, the same rule applies to timing: from Galataport to IST allow 45–60 minutes outside rush hour, and 45–75 minutes to SAW, which crosses the Bosphorus. Add the time to disembark, collect your cases and clear passport control in the underground terminal; our guides to Galataport to Istanbul Airport and Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen explain how much margin to leave. If your ship is only in port for the day, a private city tour from the cruise port is another option on our tours page.

How much is a taxi from Galataport to Sabiha Gökçen Airport?
About €38–45 (₺2,100–2,500) on the meter, plus the bridge toll (≈€1.05 / ₺59 on the 15 Temmuz or Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridge) or the Eurasia Tunnel. Allow 45–75 minutes. A private transfer costs from €52 per vehicle.

Where do taxis wait at Galataport?
According to the site plan in Galataport's 2026 pickup procedure, the taxi stand is at street level on Meclis-i Mebusan Caddesi, in front of Block E and next to the Block D terminal entrance. Pre-booked cars collect guests at the terminal exit from the underground P1 car park.
Do Istanbul taxis charge more at night?

Can I pay for a taxi at Galataport by card?
Card terminals linked to the meter become mandatory on 16 November 2026 after an extension, and reports mention a further 15 days to start accepting cards. Until then, carry enough lira and ask the driver before you set off.

Do Uber and BiTaksi work at the cruise terminal?
Both apps book licensed taxis, so the metered tariff applies and BiTaksi shows an estimate in advance. We could not confirm a dedicated app pickup point at Galataport, so expect to be sent to the street-level stand or a nearby road.
Is a private transfer cheaper than a taxi from Galataport?
For one or two people the cost is about the same. For three to six people with cruise luggage a transfer is usually cheaper, because one Mercedes Vito replaces two taxis. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and the exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay.
