Istanbul Airport to Kadıköy, Moda and Bağdat Caddesi

Updated 3 October 2026

Short answer: the simplest way from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Kadıköy is the Havaist HVL-6 coach: ≈€9.50 (₺515) per person, no changes, every 75 minutes around the clock, about 2 hours. The cheapest is the train, M11 to Halkalı, Marmaray to Ayrılık Çeşmesi and one stop on the M4: about 1.5–2 hours for ≈€3 (₺176) with a visitor's Istanbulkart, with two changes, and on weekdays you must leave the airport by about 22:45. A taxi costs about €46–58 (₺2,550–3,200) plus a Bosphorus toll; a private transfer costs from €56 per vehicle for up to 6 passengers.

Kadıköy, like Moda, Fenerbahçe and Bağdat Caddesi further along the coast, is on the Asian side of Istanbul, while the airport lies far out on the European side. Every route crosses the Bosphorus, by bridge, by tunnel or on the undersea Marmaray rail line, and by road it's at least 51 km.

Coach and rail prices are per person, one way, for a visitor with an anonymous Istanbulkart (fares valid since 20 July 2026); the card itself costs ≈€3 (₺165). *Rail times start when you board the M11: add the walk to the platform and up to 15 minutes' wait. Taxi fares are meter estimates without tolls; road times assume free-flowing traffic. The private-transfer price is per vehicle (Mercedes Vito, up to 6 passengers), depends on the date and pickup time and is shown before you pay.

Havaist HVL-6: the direct coach

HVL-6 leaves from platform 14 on floor -2, the transport level signposted from arrivals. It runs 24 hours a day: from the airport at 00:00, 01:15, 02:30 and 03:45, then every 75 minutes from 05:15 to 22:45. It stops at Tepeüstü, Yenisahra and Acıbadem Metro (for the M4) and ends on the Kadıköy waterfront by the city-bus platforms, a few minutes' walk from the ferry piers. Havaist's average for the 75 km is 120 minutes.

The fare is ≈€9.50 (₺515) with an Istanbulkart or online ticket, or ≈€11.50 (₺635) by contactless bank card. A round trip bought online or in the Havaist app costs ≈€15 (₺824; 40% off the return, valid for 30 days). Two bags per person are free and each extra piece costs ≈€2 (₺120); tell the crew you're going to Kadıköy, as bags are stowed by stop. Children up to 6 ride free on a parent's lap.

By rail: M11, Marmaray and M4

  1. M11 to Halkalı (33 minutes): follow the metro signs from arrivals to the M11 and take a train towards Halkalı, not Gayrettepe. Trains run every 15 minutes, 06:14–00:29.
  2. Marmaray to Ayrılık Çeşmesi (about 43 minutes): at Halkalı, walk a few minutes to the Marmaray and board a train towards Gebze (every 15 minutes). It crosses under the Bosphorus between Sirkeci and Üsküdar; Ayrılık Çeşmesi is the next stop.
  3. M4 one stop to Kadıköy: the M4 shares the station. Kadıköy is the end of the line, close to the ferry piers.

What a visitor pays

Transfer discounts and the refunds at the M11 and Marmaray exit gates apply only to Istanbulkarts personalised with a Turkish ID or residence-permit number. On a visitor's anonymous card every ride is a full fare, and the M11 and Marmaray gates charge the line's maximum with no refund: ≈€0.85 (₺47.89) on the M11, ≈€1.50 (₺82.17) on the Marmaray and ≈€0.85 (₺46.20) on the M4, about €3 (₺176) in total. Residents with a personalised card pay less. The card costs ≈€3 (₺165) at the station machines, and one card can pay for a group: each person taps the same card. By contactless bank card the trip comes to about €8 (₺435; ₺185 each on the M11 and Marmaray), and it isn't confirmed that their gates accept bank cards.

Last trains and weekend nights

On weekdays the last Marmaray towards Gebze leaves Halkalı at 23:28 (Ayrılık Çeşmesi 00:11), so leave the airport by about 22:45. The M4 runs until around midnight; if you miss it, Kadıköy pier is a 1.4 km walk (about 18 minutes) from Ayrılık Çeşmesi. On Friday and Saturday nights extra Marmaray trains leave Halkalı every 30 minutes until 01:28, so even the last M11 (00:29) connects, and the M4 runs all night, at double fare (≈€1.65 / ₺92.40) from 00:30 to 05:30.

Via the M2 or by ferry

Changing at Gayrettepe to the M2 and at Yenikapı to the Marmaray means three changes and about €4 (₺222) for a visitor, so it rarely beats the Halkalı route. For a scenic finish, take the Marmaray only to Sirkeci, walk about 530 m to the Eminönü pier and cross to Kadıköy by ferry in about 20–25 minutes (≈€1.15 / ₺65.21). Ferries stop in the evening, so check the times on the day, and skip it with big suitcases.

Taxi from Istanbul Airport to Kadıköy

Taxis wait outside arrivals around the clock. The fastest route is about 51 km over the 15 Temmuz Şehitler Bridge, roughly 50 minutes with no traffic; drivers may also take the FSM bridge (about 11 km longer, and the usual way to Bağdat Caddesi) or the Eurasia Tunnel (Avrasya). A yellow taxi's meter comes to about €46–58 (₺2,550–3,200), more in slow traffic. Tolls are extra: ≈€1.05 (₺59) on either bridge, charged in both directions, or ≈€6 (₺330) in the Eurasia Tunnel by day and ≈€3 (₺165) from midnight to 05:00. Private transfer

A private transfer costs from €56 per vehicle, not per person: a Mercedes Vito for up to 6 passengers with luggage. The exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay. Your driver tracks your flight and meets you just outside the arrivals exit; once you land, they contact you on WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and a short video showing the way (24/7 line: +90 544 102 1414). It takes you to the door, even in Moda's narrow streets or off Bağdat Caddesi.

Back to the airport

HVL-6 also leaves Kadıköy around the clock, roughly every 75 minutes (last departure 23:00); allow 2 hours for the ride plus time for check-in. By rail, do the route in reverse: M4, Marmaray to Halkalı, then the M11.
