Turkuaz sits on the far south-western edge of Etimesgut, close to the Eskişehir road and Çankaya University, and from Esenboğa that means crossing almost the entire capital. A private car waits just outside the arrivals exit, follows your flight, and drives you to your estate door, your host's flat or the university campus.

Esenboğa lies north-east of the city and Turkuaz lies south-west, so this is one of the longer Ankara hops, close to an hour in light traffic. The route skirts or cuts through the centre depending on conditions, then heads out along the Eskişehir road towards Etimesgut and past the older parts of the district. Turkuaz is beyond Yapracık, which is a reminder of how far out it really is.
Many visitors type only "Etimesgut" into a map and end up in the wrong part of the district. Turkuaz is the south-western outpost, so give the driver the street, the apartment estate name and a phone number for whoever is waiting.
Who comes to Turkuaz
Most arrivals fall into a few groups.
- Visitors to Çankaya University, whose main campus here is known as the Turkuaz campus; academics, conference guests and parents are the usual passengers.
- Students arriving for the start of term, often with several large bags and a family member in tow.
- People staying with relatives in the newer apartment estates, which make up most of the housing.

Is public transport realistic?
Honestly, not with luggage. You would take the airport coach or a city bus into the centre, change onto the metro or another bus, and finish with a local ride because Turkuaz is far from any station in the city centre. It works for a student with a single rucksack and unlimited patience. A taxi from the airport is possible, though a ride that long is easy to get wrong when you do not know the neighbourhood name; a booked car with the address already agreed avoids that.
Practical tips for the neighbourhood
- Check the mahalle on your address: neighbouring names such as Yukarıyurtçu and Yapracık appear on nearby addresses.
- Arriving late at night, the outer estates are quiet, so tell your host the likely time; the driver stays in contact by WhatsApp until you are inside.
- Travelling as a group or with a lot of bags, a Mercedes Vito takes up to six passengers and a Sprinter takes larger parties. You pay per vehicle, not per head.

📍 Turkuaz: newer estates beside Çankaya University
Turkuaz is one of Etimesgut's outlying neighbourhoods, on the far south-western edge of the district beyond Yapracık, close to the Eskişehir road. It has appeared in population statistics as a neighbourhood of its own only since 2018, and around 10,500 people live here, mostly in newer apartment estates well away from the older parts of Etimesgut.
Its best-known neighbour is Çankaya University, whose main campus opened in 2011 at Yukarıyurtçu and is known as the Turkuaz campus. The neighbourhood is quieter and more spacious than the inner suburbs, with parks and green space between the housing blocks.
- Landmark: Çankaya University's main campus, on the Eskişehir road, is the easiest reference point nearby.
- Not central Etimesgut: Turkuaz is far from the district centre and lies off the Eskişehir road, so 'Etimesgut' on its own points to the wrong area.
- Neighbouring names: addresses close by may say Yukarıyurtçu or Yapracık, so the mahalle on your address matters.
