From Turkuaz the airport lies at the opposite end of Ankara, so a flight departure begins with a long drive across the capital. A private car picks you up at your estate, flat or Çankaya University gate at the time you choose and takes you to the Esenboğa departures entrance, with the whole trip planned around your check-in.
✅ What's Included
Planning a departure from the far south-west
Turkuaz is about as far from Esenboğa as you can be and still be in Ankara. Whatever time looks safe on paper, the journey adds a buffer at each end: the lanes inside the estates, the climb back onto the Eskişehir road, the crossing of the city and the airport approach. The sensible way to plan is to decide when you want to be at check-in and subtract the drive plus a cushion, rather than leaving at the last comfortable moment.
Leaving the neighbourhood
- Confirm the pickup point: the front of your block, the estate gate or the university entrance are all fine, but say which.
- If the estate has a barrier or security cabin, tell the guard to expect a car and give the driver the plate number we send.
- Bring the bags to the pickup point together so the loading takes a minute rather than ten.
- Keep your passport, boarding pass and phone in your pocket, not in a case that goes into the boot.
The route to Esenboğa
From Turkuaz you head back towards the Eskişehir road and then across Ankara towards the north-east. Early morning and late evening are usually the smoothest windows. Weekday rush hours are the slowest, particularly in the late afternoon, when Ankara's main roads fill up on the way out of the centre.
If you are travelling at weekends or very late at night, the road is fast, and the real question becomes how early you want to be at the terminal.
Students, families and term-end departures
With a university on the doorstep, term ends mean students leaving with trunks and boxes, often with a family member helping. If this is you, count your bags honestly and tell us the number when you book, so the driver brings a vehicle with room. A Mercedes Vito takes up to six passengers with luggage, and a Sprinter is available if several households travel together.
Why not use the bus
To reach an airport coach you would first cross the city to Kızılay or AŞTİ, which is a long ride before the actual airport journey begins. The airport itself is far from the neighbourhood, so a taxi is also an option, but you would have to hail one in a quiet outer district or call one in advance, and neither guarantees a driver who knows the estate. A booked transfer is fixed in advance and the price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay. Our guide to the Ankara airport bus covers the coach routes in more detail.
At the terminal
The driver stops at the departures entrance for your flight, international or domestic, and helps with the bags. Drivers speak English and can send a video location on WhatsApp if your pickup point is hard to explain. You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the pickup, and the booking guarantee is paid online, with the rest in cash to the driver.
📍 Turkuaz: newer estates beside Çankaya University
Turkuaz is one of Etimesgut's outlying neighbourhoods, on the far south-western edge of the district beyond Yapracık, close to the Eskişehir road. It has appeared in population statistics as a neighbourhood of its own only since 2018, and around 10,500 people live here, mostly in newer apartment estates well away from the older parts of Etimesgut.
Its best-known neighbour is Çankaya University, whose main campus opened in 2011 at Yukarıyurtçu and is known as the Turkuaz campus. The neighbourhood is quieter and more spacious than the inner suburbs, with parks and green space between the housing blocks.
- Landmark: Çankaya University's main campus, on the Eskişehir road, is the easiest reference point nearby.
- Not central Etimesgut: Turkuaz is far from the district centre and lies off the Eskişehir road, so 'Etimesgut' on its own points to the wrong area.
- Neighbouring names: addresses close by may say Yukarıyurtçu or Yapracık, so the mahalle on your address matters.
🛫 Turkuaz to Ankara Esenboğa Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 60 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Turkuaz plan a pickup about 4¼–4¾ hours before an international flight and 3¼–3¾ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 09:15 and 09:45.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal, at the international (Dış Hatlar) or domestic (İç Hatlar) section for your flight.
- Traffic: Ankara traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings, especially on the city-centre side of the airport road; leave earlier at those times.
- At the airport: Esenboğa has one terminal building with a domestic and an international section; follow the signs for yours once inside.
