Pickup at The Peninsula Istanbul
Send us your flight time with the booking and we'll suggest when to leave. Because the streets around Galataport are narrow and partly one-way or pedestrian, your driver waits at the hotel entrance or the nearest point a car can reach, and helps with your bags. From Karaköy the car heads out to the ring road and the airport, where you're dropped at the departures level close to your airline's check-in.
A Mercedes Sprinter takes groups of up to 15. If you'd like a VIP transfer, the black VIP Vito and VIP Sprinter have custom-designed interiors.
Rail and tram from Karaköy
The F2 Tünel funicular is the key to the rail route. Its lower station in Karaköy is about 420 m from the hotel, a flat 6-minute walk. Ride it up to Beyoğlu, walk about 115 m to Şişhane station, then take the M2 four stops to Gayrettepe and the M11 to the airport. That spares you the steep, partly cobbled climb from Karaköy to Şişhane on foot.
For Havaist, take the T1 tram from Karaköy, about 390 m away, three stops to Kabataş, ride the F1 funicular up to Taksim and board HVL-9 there; it costs ₺470 with an Istanbulkart or ₺590 by contactless card, with no cash accepted. Our Galataport to Istanbul Airport guide sets out each route step by step.
Taxi fares and traffic
A yellow taxi from Karaköy to the airport comes to roughly ₺2,100–2,400 on the meter (₺71.94 to start, ₺47.92 per km, no night rate), with tolls and slow-traffic time added. Carry cash: the deadline for taxis to take cards through a terminal linked to the meter has been extended to 16 November 2026. See our taxi price guide for details.
Weekday mornings (about 07:00 to 10:00) and evenings (about 17:00 to 20:00) are when the drive takes longest, so allow extra time then.

🛫 The Peninsula Istanbul to Istanbul Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 50 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from The Peninsula Istanbul plan a pickup about 4¼–4½ hours before an international flight and 3¼–3½ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 09:30 and 09:45.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures level (upper floor) of the terminal, at the entrance nearest your airline’s check-in area.
- Traffic: Istanbul traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings (about 07:00–10:00) and evenings (about 17:00–20:00), and on the bridges between the Asian and European sides; leave earlier at those times.
- At the airport: At Istanbul Airport there is a security check at the terminal entrance, before check-in, and the walk to the furthest gates can be long.
