How to Get from Istanbul Airport to Beşiktaş & Şişli
Beşiktaş and Şişli are Istanbul's main business districts and home to some of its best-known neighbourhoods, from the shops of Nişantaşı to the office towers of Levent and the Bosphorus waterfront around Dolmabahçe. They are also the easiest part of central Istanbul to reach from the airport by public transport, because the M11 airport metro ends at Gayrettepe, right between the two districts. Whether that makes the metro your best option depends on where exactly you're going, how much you're carrying and when you land.
Short answer: for Mecidiyeköy, Esentepe, Nişantaşı or Levent, the M11 metro to Gayrettepe and a short M2 hop is fast and cheap if you're travelling light (roughly 40–55 minutes in total). For the Beşiktaş waterfront, with heavy luggage or after midnight, a taxi or private transfer is simpler, at about 40–60 minutes outside rush hour.

Option 1: Metro, the strongest public option on this route
- Buy an Istanbulkart at the machines in the M11 station beneath the terminal.
- Ride the M11 to Gayrettepe, the end of the line, in roughly 30–40 minutes. Gayrettepe itself sits on the border of Beşiktaş and Şişli, close to office blocks and business hotels.
- For other destinations, change to the M2. Towards Yenikapı it is one stop to Şişli-Mecidiyeköy and two to Osmanbey, the station for Nişantaşı. In the other direction, Levent is one stop and 4. Levent two. The M11 platform at Gayrettepe is very deep, so allow a few minutes for the escalators.
With a small suitcase and a hotel near one of these stations, it's hard to beat. The limits are the usual ones: crowded trains at rush hour, long escalators with heavy bags, and no overnight service.
Option 2: Havaist airport coach
There isn't a separate coach for these districts, but the Havaist line to Taksim runs through them. It leaves from the transport level of the terminal (floor -2) and stops in the Levent, Zincirlikuyu and Beşiktaş area before reaching Taksim Square. Check the stop list and the current fare in the Havaist app, and pay with a contactless card or an Istanbulkart when you board. It's a comfortable option with bags if your hotel is close to one of its stops, less so if you still need a taxi at the other end.
