Leaving Muğla for a flight from İzmir means rolling out of the hills along the D-550 and joining the motorway north, a drive of around three hours. Your private driver collects you from your hotel or address in the city centre and drops you at the departures entrance of the right ADB terminal.

Setting the pickup time from Muğla
Think in layers: roughly two and a half to three and a quarter hours of driving, then bag drop and security, then a safety buffer of your own. Because this is a long trip with a main road before the motorway, we suggest a larger buffer than you would for a short city run. Getting out of the old quarter
If you are staying near Saburhane Square, the lanes are narrow and the car may not reach your door. The driver will wait on the nearest street the vehicle can use; have your bags ready a few minutes early. Hotels and flats on the main avenues of Menteşe are generally easier, since cars can pull up outside.
Down the D-550, then the toll motorway north
From Muğla the road runs through Yatağan and Çine towards Aydın, where you join the O-31 İzmir–Aydın Motorway for the run towards İzmir. The airport is in Gaziemir, on the south side of the city, so you reach it before the centre proper. Most of the time on this trip is spent on the D-550, not on the motorway.
Which Adnan Menderes building?
International and domestic flights use separate, adjacent buildings. Tell the driver which one you need when you book; he will use the departures entrance of that building. If you are connecting from a domestic flight onto an international one, check which terminal your onward check-in is in.
Before you set off from Muğla
- Settle your hotel bill the night before, because the morning is better spent loading the car than queueing at reception.
- Keep passports and your boarding passes in hand luggage, not in the boot.
- Carry water; Çine and Yatağan are the natural places for a break if anyone asks the driver to stop.
- Tell us the exact street or hotel name for the old quarter, as lane names near Saburhane can confuse a map app.
Guests leaving Menteşe are mostly heading for international flights home after a stay in the old quarter or on university business. A Vito is enough for a couple or a family of four with cases, while a Sprinter suits a group of up to fifteen. Either way you pay per vehicle, so the cost per person falls as the party grows.
Why not the coach?
Intercity coaches leave Muğla otogar for İzmir Otogar in Bornova. That is the far side of the city from the airport, so you need an extra step: İZBAN via Halkapınar by day, or ESHOT's night-only airport buses between about midnight and early morning. Havaş does not run from Muğla. For a morning departure especially, a private vehicle avoids relying on a chain of connections.

🛫 Muğla to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 145 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Muğla plan a pickup about 6¼–7½ hours before an international flight and 5¼–6½ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
