Izmir Airport Bus and Train: Havaş, İZBAN and ESHOT Times, Stops and Fares

Updated 18 October 2026

Short answer: Izmir Airport (ADB) has a train, direct coaches and night buses, but no metro. The İZBAN commuter train is the best public option for the city: 28 minutes to Alsancak, then on to Karşıyaka, for ≈€0.70 (₺40) with an İzmirim Kart; it doesn't take bank cards. Havaş coaches go direct to Urla, Alaçatı, Çeşme, Selçuk, Kuşadası, Aydın and Manisa, on timetables built around flights. After the last train (00:54), ESHOT night buses cost ≈€1.40 (₺77) and run until the trains restart at 05:12.

Public transport from Izmir Airport is cheap, and to Alsancak and Karşıyaka it is also quick. The catch is how you pay and when things run: İZBAN needs a card you must buy first, Havaş leaves only five times a day for the city, and ESHOT's airport lines run only at night. Below: each line, where it leaves from, the way back, and who should skip public transport. Timetables and fares were checked on 18 October 2026.

Where each option leaves from at the airport

ADB has two buildings, International and Domestic, and the terminal is decided by the flight, not the airline.

Flying in from abroad via Istanbul with your bags checked through? You land at the Domestic Terminal but are directed to International Arrivals for baggage claim and customs.

İZBAN train: the fastest public option into the city

İZBAN is Izmir's commuter railway. Trains run from the airport to Alsancak without a change and carry on to Karşıyaka. The first train leaves at 05:12 and the last at 00:54 (İZBAN describes its times as approximate). The timetable is the same on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Departures from the airport: 05:12, 05:25, then every 13 minutes from 05:51 to 22:06, then 22:32, 22:58, 23:24, 23:50, 00:04, 00:29 and 00:54.

Fare and how to pay

Cards are sold at the İZBAN ticket office (daily 07:00–14:40 and 15:00–22:40), Simpark Cafe (Domestic Arrivals), Ak Ege Buffet (Domestic Departures, on the İZBAN–Metro bridge) and Ekmekarası Café (International Arrivals). We found no rule for refunding the card price, so treat the ≈€3.50 (₺200) as spent; the card stays valid on buses, metro, trams and ferries. The full card rules are in our İzmirim Kart guide.

İZBAN towards Selçuk and Ephesus

There is no through train from the airport to Selçuk. Take İZBAN to Tepeköy (33 minutes, trains about every 26 minutes) and change to the shuttle, which runs only 14 times a day (26 minutes, first at 06:40, last at 23:50). Check izban.com.tr first; the Havaş Kuşadası coach avoids the change.

TCDD regional trains on the Izmir–Aydın line reportedly call at the airport station too, but we couldn't confirm their timetable on TCDD's own site, so check tcddtasimacilik.gov.tr.

Havaş airport buses: every line from ADB

Havaş lists nine destinations from ADB. Times follow flights, so check havas.net before you travel. Card sales are made only to the cardholder, and on intercity lines your ID details are recorded, so keep your passport to hand. The baggage allowance is 30 kg per passenger. We could not confirm whether Havaş drivers take cash on Izmir routes, so travel with a bank card in your own name.

Havaş publishes no separate fare to Selçuk, which is a stop on the Kuşadası line. The ninth destination, Nazilli, has no fare or times, so treat it as not running.

Departures from the airport

Not served from ADB: Söke, Didim, Bodrum, Seferihisar, Bergama, Ayvalık and Denizli. For those, take a taxi or a private transfer (for example Bodrum or Didim).

ESHOT night buses: after the last train

There is no daytime ESHOT bus to the terminals. Four municipal lines run at night, each three times in each direction, two hours apart.

Back to the airport

Havaş departures towards the airport from the coast and the south

Havaş lists 100 minutes from Alaçatı and 120 minutes from Çeşme to the airport. The airport advises arriving at least 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international one, so leave a margin for a late bus.

Landing late at night

Luggage, children and groups

Havaş has a luggage hold (30 kg per passenger) and is the comfortable choice with big suitcases. İZBAN and ESHOT are commuter services with no published luggage rules: one or two cases are workable, but a family with a pushchair and several bags will find it tight. Fares are per person, so four people to Çeşme pay four times ≈€11 (₺600) on Havaş.

A private transfer is priced per vehicle, not per person, and the exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay. A Mercedes Vito takes up to 6 passengers with luggage, with child seats on request. Prices start at €35 to Alsancak or Konak, €55 to Karşıyaka, €100 to Çeşme and €70 to Kuşadası. Your driver tracks your flight and waits just outside the arrivals exit; once you land, the driver messages you on WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and a short video. There is no extra charge for traffic or flight delays, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours ahead. For comparison, a taxi to Alsancak on the meter is about €19–24 (₺1,050–1,350); see Izmir Airport taxi prices. Book through our Izmir Airport transfer page or compare transfer prices.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a train from Izmir Airport to the city?

Yes. The İZBAN commuter train leaves from the Adnan Menderes Havalimanı station in front of the Domestic Terminal and reaches Alsancak in 28 minutes and Karşıyaka in 50, without a change. It runs from 05:12 to 00:54 and costs ≈€0.70 (₺40) with an İzmirim Kart. It doesn't accept bank cards.

Is there a metro to Izmir Airport?

No. The signs that say "Metro–İZBAN" point to the bridge that connects the terminals with the İZBAN station. For the Izmir metro, take İZBAN to Hilal (24 minutes, for Konak) or Halkapınar (37 minutes) and change to line M1.

How much is the bus from Izmir Airport to Alsancak?

The Havaş bus costs ≈€4.50 (₺240) and takes about 30 minutes, but runs only five times a day: 01:30, 02:30, 08:30, 10:00 and 11:30. The İZBAN train is cheaper and far more frequent at ≈€0.70 (₺40), and at night the ESHOT 202 costs ≈€1.40 (₺77).

What is the cheapest way from Izmir Airport into the city?

İZBAN at ≈€0.70 (₺40) per ride, plus the one-off cost of an İzmirim Kart (≈€3.50 / ₺200). For a single trip the card makes it less of a bargain, but it also works on buses, metro, trams and ferries. At night the cheapest option is the ESHOT bus at ≈€1.40 (₺77) with an İzmirim Kart or ≈€1.55 (₺86) with a bank card.

Is there an airport bus to Çeşme, Alaçatı or Kuşadası?

Yes, Havaş runs direct buses. To Çeşme or Alaçatı they leave at 02:30, 06:30, 08:00, every two hours from 10:00 to 20:00 and at 22:30, for ≈€11 (₺600). To Kuşadası (via Selçuk) they leave 10 times a day from 02:00 to 23:30 for ≈€11 (₺600). Check havas.net before you travel.

Does public transport run at night from Izmir Airport?

İZBAN runs until 00:54. After that four ESHOT night lines (200, 202, 204, 206) leave at 01:00 to 01:40, 03:00 to 03:40 and 05:00 to 05:40, and Havaş has departures at 01:30, 02:00 and 02:30. The trains restart at 05:12.

Can I pay by card on İZBAN?

No. İZBAN accepts only the İzmirim Kart; contactless bank cards are not valid on it. On ESHOT buses, the metro, trams and İZDENİZ ferries a contactless bank card works, at a higher fare than the Kart (ESHOT airport night buses ≈€1.55 / ₺86 against ≈€1.40 / ₺77).

Where do I buy an İzmirim Kart at Izmir Airport?

At the İZBAN ticket office (07:00–14:40 and 15:00–22:40 daily), at Simpark Cafe in Domestic Arrivals, at Ak Ege Buffet on the İZBAN–Metro bridge and at Ekmekarası Café in International Arrivals. The anonymous card costs ≈€3.50 (₺200).

Can I take large luggage on the airport bus?

On Havaş, yes: the allowance is 30 kg per passenger and the coaches have a luggage hold. İZBAN and ESHOT are ordinary commuter services with no published luggage rules, so they suit one or two cases better than a family's full luggage.

Is a transfer cheaper than public transport for a family?

Not always. Public transport is charged per person and a transfer per vehicle, so the comparison depends on group size and destination. A Mercedes Vito takes up to 6 passengers with luggage from €35 to Alsancak or Konak; the exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay.

Prefer a driver at the exit?

A private transfer is priced per vehicle, not per person, and your driver tracks your flight. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup.
