Karşıyaka faces the old centre across the Gulf of İzmir, and the airport lies on the opposite side of town. Your driver, who is watching your flight, meets you just outside the arrivals exit and crosses the city to the seafront, Bostanlı or Mavişehir. When you land, WhatsApp tells you where to find the car, with a short video of the route.
✅ What's Included
Crossing the city to the northern shore
Karşıyaka lies on the northern side of the Gulf of İzmir, about 6 km north of Konak Square across the water. Commuter ferries have linked the two since 1874. By road, though, the airport is on the far side, and the way there is around 28 km. The direct route runs through the city on Akçay Caddesi, Yeşillik and Yeşildere Caddesi, then Altınyol along the bay and Anadolu Caddesi. The alternative is the toll-free ring road (O-30) across the Bornova viaduct and through the Bayraklı tunnels.
How long it takes at different hours
Off-peak, expect something like 30 to 45 minutes. On weekday rush hours, when Altınyol and the ring road clog up, 60 to 75 minutes is realistic. Your driver chooses between the two routes on the day, depending on what the traffic looks like. We do not charge extra for traffic or flight delays, so a slow Friday evening does not change your price.
Which part of Karşıyaka are you heading for?
The centre and the piers
The seafront between the Karşıyaka and Bostanlı piers is busy with trams and pedestrians, and Çarşı is the area's best-known shopping street. Cars stop on the parallel streets, so a drop-off is a short, flat walk to most hotels and apartments.
Bostanlı and Mavişehir
West of the centre, the roads are wide and residential, and access is easy. Mavişehir is the furthest of the three. There are few hotels in this part of town; OpenStreetMap shows only a handful scattered around the centre, Bostanlı and Mavişehir, so most visitors stay across the bay in Alsancak or Konak.
Train, coach or private transfer?
This is one of the few destinations where public transport really is competitive. İZBAN runs a direct line from Adnan Menderes Havalimanı station to Karşıyaka (an underground station), also stopping at Alaybey, Nergiz, Demirköprü, Şemikler and Mavişehir. The Havaş coach to Alsancak and Karşıyaka-Mavişehir stops at Karşıyaka İskele, Bostanlı İskele and Mavişehir, though it lists only five departures a day between about 01:30 and 11:30. Night owls have ESHOT line 200 from the airport to Mavişehir; it runs at night only.
The taxi or transfer decision then depends on what you carry. With two suitcases, children, or a late arrival, a door-to-door car beats a train plus a walk from the station. With one backpack, the İZBAN train is cheap and works well.
- Staying near the pier: ask the driver to drop you on the street parallel to the seafront.
- Arriving with a family of five or six: one Vito carries you all.
- Booked a flat in Mavişehir: send the block name and entrance number.
Settling in on the bay
Once the bags are in your room, the ferry from the Karşıyaka pier is the classic way across to Konak, a link that has run since 1874. Football fans will also notice Karşıyaka S.K. colours around the district. If you are heading to a conference or a hospital appointment rather than a holiday, send the exact address and we plan the final turn in advance.
🔁 Going home: Karşıyaka back to İzmir Airport
You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
From Karşıyaka the drive back takes about 35 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 3¾–4¼ hours before departure, and about 2¾–3¼ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 13:45 and 14:15.
Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.

Yes, İZBAN runs direct to Karşıyaka station. Check the İZBAN timetable for the day, since the pattern changes by time.

On a long ride across town, a pre-booked car means you know the arrangement in advance and the driver tracks your flight.
