Heading for a flight from Karşıyaka means crossing the city to the airport in Gaziemir. A private car picks you up at your door in Karşıyaka, Bostanlı or Mavişehir, finds the quickest way for the hour and brings you to the departures entrance of the terminal your airline uses. The key decision is when to leave, because the traffic changes the answer.
✅ What's Included
Leaving Karşıyaka without watching the clock
The drive south to ADB is around 30 km. In the middle of the day or late at night 35 to 45 minutes is typical. During weekday rush hours, the Altınyol corridor along the bay and the ring road both slow down, and the same trip can take an hour or more. A mid-morning flight leaving on a Monday deserves more padding than a Sunday afternoon departure. We agree on the pickup time with you when you book and track the flight afterwards.
Two routes, chosen on the day
The direct way crosses the city through Yeşildere and Yeşillik Caddesi and finally Akçay Caddesi. The other is the toll-free ring road (O-30), which uses the Bayraklı tunnels and the Bornova viaduct. Neither is always faster, and drivers decide by looking at the live traffic on the morning. That flexibility is one reason a private car with a local driver does better than a fixed bus timetable.
Pickup spots in the different Karşıyaka neighbourhoods
If you are staying close to the piers, the seafront is full of trams and walkers, so the car waits on a parallel street. Give us the street name and we agree the corner. Bostanlı and Mavişehir are calmer, with wide roads where the car can stop right at the entrance. Flat blocks with several entrances are the usual trouble, so send the block name or the entrance number.
The train is a real option here
Unlike many districts, Karşıyaka has a direct İZBAN connection to the airport station, in front of the domestic terminal. The network's first departure is around 05:20 and the last arrival at the terminus about 01:23, so flights before dawn cannot use it. The T1 tram links Alaybey, the piers and Mavişehir for the first leg, and the Havaş coach stops at Karşıyaka İskele, Bostanlı İskele and Mavişehir, though its times are limited, so verify on havas.net.
For a daytime flight with one suitcase, the train is an honest bargain. For an early flight, a late return to the airport, or a family with strollers, taxi or transfer: pick the transfer, as the car comes to the door and no stairs are involved.
At the terminal
ADB has separate international and domestic buildings. Tell us your flight and we use the right departures entrance. If you are catching an international flight, keep documents handy before check-in.
- Pay the booking guarantee online and the remainder in cash to the driver.
- Cancel free of charge until 24 hours before the car comes.
- The driver speaks English and messages you on WhatsApp when close.
If traffic changes on the morning
A jam on Altınyol can appear within minutes. If it does, the driver switches to the ring road, or the reverse, without any change in what you pay, since traffic and flight delays carry no extra charge. You will notice a different route, not a different price. Keep your phone on and reply to the WhatsApp message when it arrives.
🛫 Karşıyaka to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 35 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Karşıyaka plan a pickup about 3¾–4¼ hours before an international flight and 2¾–3¼ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 09:45 and 10:15.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.
