Getting to Izmir Airport (ADB): Train, Buses, Taxi, Transfer and When to Leave

Updated 18 October 2026

Short answer: from Alsancak and most of central Izmir, the İZBAN train is the quickest and cheapest way to the airport: it runs every 13 minutes by day, takes 31 minutes from Alsancak and costs ≈€0.70 (₺40) with an İzmirim Kart (bank cards are not accepted). From the coast, Havaş buses run to the airport roughly every two hours from Çeşme, Alaçatı, Urla and Kuşadası, and ESHOT night buses cover the small hours. A taxi from Alsancak costs about €19–24 (₺1,050–1,350) on the meter, and a private transfer costs from €35 per vehicle. Go to the terminal that matches your flight, International or Domestic, and leave the city about 3 hours before a domestic flight and 4 hours before an international one.

Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) lies in Gaziemir, about 17 km by road from Konak and 19–20 km from Alsancak, and has its own İZBAN station. The coast is much further: Alaçatı and Çeşme are 87–96 km away and Kuşadası 84 km. Below: when to leave, which terminal, check-in, and every way to get there.

When to leave for your flight

Follow your airline. The airport operator, TAV, asks passengers to be at the airport at least 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international one (its departure guide says 1½–2 and 2–3). Online check-in usually closes 60–90 minutes before departure.

Alsancak~19–20 km, about 27 minabout 3 habout 4 h

Kuşadası~84 km, about 73 minabout 3¾ habout 4¾ h

The leave times are our suggestion, not an airline rule: the 2 or 3 hours at the airport, plus the drive and about 30 minutes' margin. Drive times are for a clear road (route-planning data); adding 20–30 minutes at weekday rush hour is our own estimate. By İZBAN from Alsancak, leave about 3½ hours before a domestic flight. By Havaş, work back from the bus departure and journey time.

International or Domestic terminal?

Izmir Airport has two separate, adjacent buildings, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal. What decides it is the flight, not the airline: flights within Turkey leave from Domestic, flights abroad from International. Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, AJet and SunExpress use both, so check your booking and ask the airline if unsure. If you fly to Istanbul on the way abroad, your flight from Izmir is a domestic one, so confirm where to check in.

Check-in and security

İZBAN train to the airport

İZBAN, Izmir's commuter railway, is the quickest public way from the city. The airport station, Adnan Menderes Havalimanı, is in front of the Domestic Terminal. The timetable is the same on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays (checked for 19, 24 and 25 October 2026), and İZBAN marks its times as approximate.

Board atFirst train to the airportLast trainJourney
Alsancak05:4701:2231 min
Halkapınar (metro M1 transfer)05:4001:1538 min
Karşıyaka05:2701:0251 min

From Alsancak a train leaves every 13 minutes through the day, with fewer after about 22:30. For Konak, take metro M1 to Hilal and change to İZBAN; Hilal is about four minutes closer to the airport than Alsancak.

Paying: İZBAN takes only the İzmirim Kart, not bank cards. The fare is ≈€0.70 (₺40) for the first 20 km, then ₺1.50 for each further km, so a long ride such as Karşıyaka costs more. On entry the system holds the fare to the end of the line on your card. Tap the orange refund validator at the airport station within 3 hours to get the difference back; if you skip it, you pay for the whole line. Load about ₺150 to be safe (our estimate) and use one card per person. A new card costs ≈€3.50 (₺200); see our İzmirim Kart guide for where to buy and top up.

From Selçuk and the south: there is no through İZBAN train. A shuttle runs from Selçuk to Tepeköy (14 trains a day, 05:50 to 23:00, 26 minutes), where you change to İZBAN for the airport (about 33 minutes). Check the connection on izban.com.tr first.

TCDD regional trains from Selçuk, Aydın and Nazilli also call at the airport station, according to secondary sources. We could not confirm times on TCDD's own site, so check tcddtasimacilik.gov.tr.

Havaş buses to the airport

Havaş is the only direct bus from the coast. The airport does not say which terminal the buses serve on arrival, so ask the driver or Havaş (0850 222 0 487). These are the departures to the airport on the days we checked (18 and 19 October 2026); times change, so confirm on havas.net.

The fares are those published from the airport on each route; confirm yours when you buy. havas.net lists five Alsancak and Mavişehir departures, though the airport's own August timetable adds an evening one (20:00 from Mavişehir, 20:40 from Alsancak). The bus reaches Selçuk after leaving Kuşadası; that time is not listed. Havaş has no line from Bodrum, Didim, Söke, Bergama, Ayvalık, Dikili, Marmaris or Denizli.

Card tickets must be bought by the cardholder, and ID details are recorded on intercity routes, so keep your passport to hand. The baggage allowance is 30 kg, and children under 6 ride free on a parent's lap. We could not confirm whether the Izmir buses take cash, so buy in advance on havas.net.

ESHOT night buses

There is no daytime ESHOT bus to the airport. At night four municipal lines run, each three times, two hours apart, every day of the week:

The fare is ≈€1.40 (₺77) with an İzmirim Kart or ≈€1.55 (₺86) with a contactless bank card. These lines have no 90-minute free transfer. The airport stops are named Havalimanı İç Hatlar Geliş (domestic) and Dış Hatlar Geliş (international), and ESHOT publishes no journey times, so allow generous margin and see the early-morning section below.

Taxi

Ask your hotel to call a taxi, and order it the evening before for an early flight. Izmir's meter charges ≈€0.70 (₺40) to start plus ≈€0.95 (₺54) per km, a minimum fare of ≈€4 (₺210) and ≈€0.05 (₺4) a minute when waiting or crawling in traffic, with no night rate (tariff in force since May 2026). Many taxis take cards, but card acceptance only becomes mandatory from 16 November 2026, so carry some lira.

Çeşme (plus toll)~96 km≈€94–105 (₺5,200–5,850)

Our estimates, not official fares: the tariff applied to the road distance, plus a margin for detours and about 15 minutes in slow traffic. The Çeşme and Aydın motorways are toll roads. For the coast, agree the price and whether tolls are included before you set off. The airport taxi office's price list covers trips from the airport; we found none for trips to it. See Izmir Airport taxi prices.

Private transfer

Your driver picks you up at your hotel, home or office at the time you agree, even very early, and takes you to departures at the terminal you name when you book. Prices are per vehicle, not per person (Mercedes Vito, up to 6 passengers with luggage): from €35 from Alsancak or Konak, from €45 from Bornova, from €55 from Karşıyaka, from €65 from Urla, from €60 from Selçuk, from €70 from Kuşadası, from €95 from Alaçatı and from €100 from Çeşme. The exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay, there is no extra charge for traffic, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before.

It helps most on the coastal runs, with a family or group, and for flights before the first train. Prices by area: Alsancak, Konak, Karşıyaka, Bornova, Urla, Selçuk, Kuşadası, Alaçatı or Çeşme, or all routes.

Driving: drop-off, parking and car hire returns

The airport sits on the D-550 in Gaziemir: from the north via Akçay Caddesi and the ring road, from Torbalı, Selçuk and Aydın via the D-550 or the toll motorway. TAV publishes no free drop-off time at the departures kerb, so keep stops short and use a car park if the car has to wait.

Early-morning flights

The first İZBAN trains from Karşıyaka, Halkapınar and Alsancak all reach the airport at about 06:18 (departure plus journey time). That suits domestic flights from about 08:30 and international flights from about 09:30. For anything earlier:

Frequently asked questions

How early should I get to Izmir Airport?

Follow your airline. TAV, the airport operator, asks for at least 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international one. Online check-in usually closes 60–90 minutes before departure. From central Izmir we suggest leaving about 3 hours before a domestic flight and 4 hours before an international one, and earlier from the coast or at rush hour.

How do I get to Izmir Airport by train?

Take İZBAN to Adnan Menderes Havalimanı station, in front of the Domestic Terminal. From Alsancak the first train is at 05:47 and the last at 01:22, with a train every 13 minutes by day, and the ride takes 31 minutes. The fare is ≈€0.70 (₺40) with an İzmirim Kart; bank cards are not accepted. Tap the orange refund validator when you exit to get back the fare held on your card.

Which terminal should I go to, International or Domestic?

It depends on the flight, not the airline: domestic flights leave from the Domestic Terminal and flights abroad from the International Terminal. Check your booking or ask the airline. The two buildings are next to each other and linked on foot, so a wrong turn costs a short walk, but tell your taxi or transfer driver the right one.

Is there a bus to Izmir Airport from Çeşme or Kuşadası?

Yes, Havaş runs direct buses. From Çeşme they leave at 03:00 and then every two hours from 06:00 to 22:00 and take about two hours; from Kuşadası they leave at 03:00 and every two hours from 07:00 to 23:00 and take about 90 minutes. Alaçatı and Urla are stops on the Çeşme route. Check havas.net before you travel, as times change.

How do I get to the airport at night or very early in the morning?

ESHOT night buses 202, 200, 206 and 204 run to the airport at about 00:00–00:40, 02:00–02:40 and 04:00–04:40, and Havaş leaves Alsancak at 03:30 and 04:30. The first İZBAN train reaches the airport at about 06:18. For flights before about 08:30, or from the coast, a taxi booked the evening before or a private transfer is usually simpler.

How much is a taxi to Izmir Airport?

On the meter, expect about €17–22 (₺950–1,250) from Konak, ≈€19–24 (₺1,050–1,350) from Alsancak and ≈€28–34 (₺1,550–1,900) from Karşıyaka. The tariff is ≈€0.70 (₺40) to start plus ≈€0.95 (₺54) per km, with no night rate. These are estimates, not official fares. Carry some lira, as card acceptance becomes mandatory only from 16 November 2026.

Can I park or be dropped off at Izmir Airport?

Yes. TAV publishes no free drop-off period at the kerb, so keep stops short. The multi-storey car parks cost ≈€3 (₺160) for the first hour and ≈€10 (₺550) for 12–24 hours, and the open car park near Domestic Arrivals costs ≈€2.50 (₺140) for the first hour, by card only. Spaces cannot be reserved.

Can I book a transfer to Izmir Airport for an early flight?

Yes. Your driver picks you up at your hotel, home or office at the time you agree, even very early, and drops you at departures. A Mercedes Vito for up to 6 passengers costs from €35 per vehicle from Alsancak or Konak, and the exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay. You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before.
