Where to Meet Your Driver at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB)

Updated 18 October 2026

Short answer: walk out of the arrivals exit of the terminal where you collect your bags. Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) has two separate buildings, International and Domestic, each with its own arrivals exit. Your driver tracks your flight and meets you just outside that exit. Once you land, switch on mobile data or connect to the free airport Wi-Fi: your driver contacts you on WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and a short video showing the way.

Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport has two terminal buildings side by side, and the one you land at is not always the one where you leave. If you fly in from abroad via Istanbul, for example, you land on the domestic side but collect your bags at International Arrivals. This guide follows you from the aircraft to the car: which exit you will use, how to get online so the WhatsApp message reaches you, what happens if your flight is early, late or changed, and what to do if you cannot see your driver.

Step by step: from landing to the car

  1. Switch your phone on: after landing, turn off flight mode and switch on mobile data, or connect to the free airport Wi-Fi (see below). Your driver's WhatsApp message with the meeting point and the video comes after you land, so keep an eye on it.
  2. Passport control (direct international flights only): on a direct flight from abroad you pass passport control first. Domestic passengers, and passengers who already entered Turkey at another airport such as Istanbul, skip this step. Entry rules depend on your nationality, so check yours before you travel.
  3. Baggage claim: the screens show which belt your bags are on. International Arrivals has 6 baggage carousels and Domestic Arrivals has 5. If a bag is missing or damaged, report it to your airline's ground handling desk in the baggage area before you walk out, and send your driver a quick WhatsApp message so they know you are held up.
  4. Customs: international arrivals go through customs; with nothing to declare, take the green channel.
  5. Arrivals exit: walk out of the arrivals exit of your terminal. Do not head for the taxi rank or the Havaş bus stop: your driver meets you just outside the exit, at the meeting point shown in the WhatsApp message and video.
  6. To the car: your driver helps with your luggage and walks with you to the vehicle.

International or domestic: which exit will you use?

The terminal is decided by the type of flight, not by the airline: the same airline can use both buildings depending on the flight. Each building has its own arrivals floor with its own exit. You do not have to work out which one is yours, because your driver knows your flight and waits outside the right exit. It still helps to know what to expect:

You arrive onFormalities at IzmirYou come out at

A domestic flight within TurkeyBaggage claim onlyDomestic Arrivals exit
A flight from abroad via Istanbul or another Turkish airport, bags checked through to IzmirBaggage claim and customs (passport control was at your first Turkish airport)International Arrivals exit, although you land on the domestic side

Taxis and Havaş buses leave from the exits on the arrivals floor of both terminals, so you will see them outside whichever exit you use. Your driver's WhatsApp message tells you exactly where to stand.

Flying in from abroad via Istanbul?

If you connect in Istanbul (or another Turkish airport) to a domestic flight with your bags checked through to Izmir, you pass passport control there. In Izmir you land at the Domestic Terminal, but the airport's ground staff direct you to the International Arrivals terminal for baggage claim and customs, so you come out of the international exit. If your bags were not checked through, you collect them and clear customs at your first airport, check in again, and arrive in Izmir like any domestic passenger. Check with your airline which applies to you. When you book, give us the number of the flight that lands in Izmir, not your first flight.

Is it far between the two terminals?

The two buildings are adjacent, and older airport information puts the walk between them at around 5 minutes with moving walkways; we have not been able to re-confirm that figure, so treat it as a rough guide. You should not need to walk between them: if the WhatsApp message tells you to meet at the other exit, it will say so and the video shows the route.

Getting online so WhatsApp works

The meeting point and the video come by WhatsApp, so the one thing to sort out is data. Make sure the phone number you gave when booking has WhatsApp, then pick one of these:

The Wi-Fi kiosks closest to arrivals are in the international area: airside opposite passport control (between gates 230 and 231) and in the international baggage hall between belts 4 and 5. If you are arriving on the domestic side, the kiosks the airport lists are in departures, so for you roaming, an eSIM or the SMS code is the practical route. If you cannot get online at all, see "If you can't find your driver" below.

Delays, early landings and late flights

We track your flight in real time. If it lands early or late, the pickup adjusts to the actual landing time, so a delay on the flight you booked needs no message from you. There is no extra charge for traffic or flight delays.

Your driver also knows that passport control and baggage claim can take a while, so there is no need to rush. If you are held up for longer, for example by a missing bag, let us know using the number in your confirmation or reply to your driver's WhatsApp message.

Late-night and early-morning landings work the same way: your driver tracks the flight and waits just outside the arrivals exit, whatever the hour. After midnight the public options are limited, so a booked driver is often the easier choice; the Izmir Airport bus and train guide lists what runs at night.

If your flight changes: what to send us

Flight tracking follows the flight number you booked with. If you are moved to another flight, miss a connection or change your travel date, tell us as soon as you know, on WhatsApp or by phone on +90 544 102 1414 (24/7). Send us:

Plans cancelled instead? Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before your pickup time.

Luggage, child seats and special requests

Travelling as a group

Up to 6 people fit in one Mercedes Vito; larger groups can book a Sprinter for up to 15, and the price is per vehicle, not per person. If you are unsure, tell us how many passengers and suitcases you have and we will recommend the right vehicle.

If you can't find your driver

  1. Stay just outside the exit you came out of. Do not walk off to the car park or the taxi rank.
  2. Call or WhatsApp your driver on the number they messaged you from.
  3. Call our 24/7 line on +90 544 102 1414 (phone or WhatsApp) and we will connect you straight away.
  4. Say where you are: the International or the Domestic Terminal, and any shop, sign or bus stop you can see.
  5. No data? Get on TAV-FREE-WIFI with the SMS code, or with a free password from a Wi-Fi kiosk (see above). The airport information desk on the International Arrivals floor is open 24 hours.

Please do not leave with anyone who approaches you offering a ride: go only with the driver who contacted you on WhatsApp. If you do take a taxi instead, use the official taxi rank outside the arrivals exit and see the Izmir Airport taxi prices guide for what to expect on the meter.

Prices: is a private transfer worth it?

A private transfer from Izmir Airport costs from €35 per vehicle to Alsancak or Konak (Mercedes Vito, up to 6 passengers); the exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay. Further out, Bornova is from €45, Karşıyaka from €55, Selçuk from €60, Kuşadası from €70 and Çeşme from €100.

Travelling alone with light luggage? İZBAN is much cheaper at ≈€0.70 (₺40) to Alsancak, with trains from about 05:12 to 00:54, but it does not take bank cards and needs an İzmirim Kart (see the İzmirim Kart guide). A taxi to Alsancak costs about €19–24 (₺1,050–1,350) on the meter, which can work out well for a party that fits in one car. A transfer pays off most for families, groups, heavy luggage, late arrivals and anyone with a meeting to reach. Compare every option in our Izmir Airport guide and the city and coast guide.

Frequently asked questions

Where will my driver wait at Izmir Airport?

Just outside the arrivals exit of your terminal, International or Domestic. Once you land, your driver contacts you on WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and a short video showing the way.

I'm flying in from abroad via Istanbul. Which exit do I use at Izmir?

If your bags are checked through to Izmir, you pass passport control in Istanbul, land at the Domestic Terminal and are directed to International Arrivals for baggage claim and customs, so you come out of the international exit. If you collected your bags in Istanbul and checked in again, you arrive like any domestic passenger. Either way, your driver's WhatsApp message after landing tells you where to go.

I'm on a domestic flight. Is anything different?

Domestic passengers skip passport control and customs and usually reach the exit sooner. Your driver knows which flight you are on and waits just outside the Domestic Arrivals exit.

I have no mobile data. How do I get the WhatsApp message?

Connect to the free TAV-FREE-WIFI network: enter your country code and phone number, then the SMS code. Without roaming, you can get a free password with your passport at a Wi-Fi kiosk, for example in the international baggage hall. You can also call our 24/7 line on +90 544 102 1414.

What happens if my flight is delayed or lands early?

What if passport control or baggage claim takes a long time?

Your driver tracks your flight and knows that arrival formalities can take a while. If you are held up, for example by a missing bag, let us know using the number in your confirmation or reply to your driver's WhatsApp message.

Can I get a child seat for my transfer from Izmir Airport?

Yes, on request: a child safety seat for younger children and a booster seat for older ones. Ask for them when you book, so they are ready at pickup.

How many people and suitcases fit in the vehicle?

A Mercedes Vito takes up to 6 passengers and 7 suitcases, and a Mercedes Sprinter up to 15 passengers and 20 suitcases. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and the exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay.
