Bornova is the university district on İzmir's north-eastern side, and the trip from Adnan Menderes Airport crosses the city to reach it. Your private driver tracks your flight, meets you just outside the arrivals exit and takes you to the faculty, hospital gate, hotel or family home.
✅ What's Included
Crossing the city to Bornova
There are two ways in. The city route follows Akçay Caddesi, Yeşildere Caddesi and Altınyol, then the D-300 towards Bornova. The alternative is the toll-free İzmir Ring Road (O-30), which skirts Buca and enters Bornova from the south-east and is longer in distance. Off-peak the drive takes 25 to 40 minutes; on weekday rush hours, 50 to 65 minutes is realistic. The university and hospital add to the morning traffic.
What Bornova is like
The district lies about eight kilometres north-east of Konak Square. It is home to Ege University's main campus and hospital and to İzmir Otogar, the central bus terminal. In the nineteenth century European and Levantine families built summer houses here, and several mansions still carry their former owners' names. The İzmir Metro line runs out to Bornova. It is mostly residential and student-oriented, with a modest number of hotels near the centre, the metro and the university.
Narrow lanes and controlled gates
The streets around the old Levantine core and the Bornova Çarşı are narrow, so the driver uses the main avenues or a hotel forecourt where possible. Ege University's campus and hospital have controlled gates. Name the faculty, dormitory or hospital entrance when you book, because "Ege University" alone covers a large site. A student arriving with several suitcases is best served by a car that goes to the dormitory entrance.
Metro, bus or private transfer?
Bornova has no İZBAN station. The rail route is İZBAN from Adnan Menderes Havalimanı to Halkapınar or Hilal, then İzmir Metro M1 to Bornova, Ege Üniversitesi or Evka 3. There is no daytime Havaş coach to Bornova, and ESHOT line 204 (Bornova Metro to the airport, via the Otogar) runs only at night, with a few departures between about 01:00 and 06:00. Intercity coaches use İzmir Otogar, which is in Bornova district.
Arriving for study, treatment or family
Most passengers for Bornova land with a purpose: a semester at Ege University, an appointment at its hospital or a visit to relatives in the residential streets. Students should ask the dormitory or faculty office for the exact building and the gate they should use. Hospital visitors should ask whether to be dropped at the main entrance or at a specific block. Those two answers save more time than any shortcut. Bornova is also the eastern end of the metro line, so the driver can leave you beside the Bornova metro station if you want to continue by rail.
Coach passengers should know that İzmir Otogar is in Bornova district. If you are connecting to an intercity bus after landing, send us the company and departure time so that the drop-off is planned around it. Hotels are mostly near the centre, the metro and the university, so send the hotel name and we will pin the entrance.
- Landing with a trolley and a heavy suitcase makes the metro change tiring; a car takes you to the entrance.
- A Mercedes Vito seats up to six, and there is no extra charge for traffic or flight delays.
- After you land, the driver sends the meeting point and a short video on WhatsApp.
🔁 Going home: Bornova back to İzmir Airport
You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
From Bornova the drive back takes about 30 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 3¾–4 hours before departure, and about 2¾–3 hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 14:00 and 14:15.
Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
