Landing at Adnan Menderes and heading for Konak Square, the Kemeraltı bazaar or a hotel around Basmane? Your private driver waits just outside the arrivals exit of your terminal and drives north into the old centre, usually in 25 to 30 minutes outside the weekday rush. Below is how the pickup works and what to expect when you reach the historic core of İzmir.
✅ What's Included
Meeting your driver at ADB
İzmir Airport has two separate buildings, one for international and one for domestic flights, and each has its own arrivals floor. Walk out of the exit of the terminal you landed in. Once you are on the ground, your driver sends a WhatsApp message with the exact meeting point and a short video of the way, and he speaks English if you want to call instead.
We follow your flight, so a late landing or a long wait at the baggage belt changes nothing for you and carries no extra charge for the delay.
The drive north into old İzmir
From Gaziemir the usual line runs along Akçay Caddesi and Yeşillik Caddesi, then up through Eşrefpaşa to Konak Square. If the city streets are clogged, the toll-free ring road (O-30) and Fahrettin Altay is the alternative, and your driver picks whichever is moving at that moment. Off-peak you are at your door in 20 to 30 minutes; on a weekday morning or late afternoon it can stretch to 40 or 55 minutes.
The first landmark is usually the clock tower on Konak Square, built for Sultan Abdülhamid II's 1901 jubilee and still the place locals arrange to meet.
Where the car stops in Konak
Kemeraltı is a maze of covered market lanes running inland towards the Roman-era Agora, and cars do not belong in it. If your hotel sits inside the bazaar, the driver leaves you at its nearest edge, such as Konak Square, Fevzipaşa Bulvarı or Anafartalar Caddesi, and you wheel your bags the last stretch over the old paving.
Hotels around Basmane and Çankaya
The densest cluster of hotels is around Basmane station, Çankaya and Gaziosmanpaşa Bulvarı, from budget rooms near the railway to taller hotels on the boulevard. Some stand on narrow side streets, so the car may halt on the main road and leave you a short walk. Send the hotel name and a map pin when you book and the driver will plan the closest legal stop.
Train, bus or private car from the airport?
The cheapest route is the İZBAN train from the airport station to Hilal, then the İzmir Metro M1 to Basmane, Çankaya or Konak. That works well with one light bag and a clear head. Havaş runs a coach towards Alsancak via Basmane, but only five departures a day were listed on 18 October 2026, all between about 01:30 and 11:30, so check havas.net first. ESHOT's night bus 202 is the only city bus, and it runs after midnight only.
A private car costs more, but it carries a family and four suitcases from the exit to the hotel without a change at Hilal. Our İzmir Airport guide compares every option with journey times.
Why the hotels gather near the station
Basmane station opened in 1866 and is still the central terminus for regional trains, which helps explain why so many hotels stand around it. Above the bazaar the hill of Kadifekale, with a castle whose origins go back to the 4th century BC, makes a useful landmark if you are lost. A driver who knows these streets will usually pick the approach that leaves you closest to the reception.
🔁 Going home: Konak back to İzmir Airport
You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
From Konak the drive back takes about 25 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 3½–3¾ hours before departure, and about 2½–2¾ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 14:15 and 14:30.
Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the transfer from İzmir Airport to Konak?
Allow roughly 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hours and up to about 55 minutes on a busy weekday. Your driver chooses between the city streets and the ring road depending on traffic.
Can the driver take me into the Kemeraltı bazaar?
No, the market lanes are too narrow for cars. The driver stops at the nearest edge, usually Konak Square or Anafartalar Caddesi, and you walk the last part.
Which terminal do I go to for the meeting point?
The one you land at. International and domestic arrivals are in separate buildings, and your driver messages you on WhatsApp after landing with the exact spot and a short video.
Should I take a taxi or book a transfer from ADB to Konak?
A taxi is fine for one or two people with light luggage and no schedule. A booked transfer suits families, groups and late arrivals because the driver already knows your flight and your hotel address.
What if my flight lands in the middle of the night?
The driver tracks the flight and is there whenever you land. Public transport is thin at that hour, with only a few night buses, so a pre-booked car is the simpler plan.
Can I cancel if my plans change?
Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup. You pay a guarantee online when booking and the rest in cash to the driver.
