How to Get from Izmir Airport (ADB) to the City, Çeşme and Kuşadası
Short answer: for Alsancak and central Izmir, the İZBAN commuter train is the quickest and cheapest option: 28 minutes to Alsancak with no change, every 13 minutes for most of the day, for ≈€0.70 (₺40) with an İzmirim Kart (bank cards aren't accepted). For the coast, Havaş airport buses go direct to Alaçatı and Çeşme (≈€11 / ₺600, about every 2 hours) and to Selçuk and Kuşadası (≈€11 / ₺600). A taxi to Alsancak costs about €22–27 (₺1,200–1,500) on the meter, and the airport's taxi price list gives ≈€68 (₺3,800) to Kuşadası and ≈€97 (₺5,400) to Çeşme. A private transfer costs from €40 per vehicle to Alsancak or Konak, from €67 to Kuşadası and from €77 to Çeşme.
Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) is about 22 km by road from Alsancak, but many people landing here are heading straight for the coast: Alaçatı and Çeşme lie 87–96 km to the west, Kuşadası 84 km to the south and Ephesus 67 km away near Selçuk. The airport has its own train station, and Havaş buses run direct to all three coastal areas. What catches visitors out is timing and payment: coastal buses leave every couple of hours, the Havaş city bus only a few times a day, and the train won't take a bank card.

*Driving times are for a clear road; allow more in Izmir's traffic. The Çeşme motorway and the İzmir–Aydın motorway (towards Selçuk and Kuşadası) are toll roads. Train and bus times come from the operators' current timetables and can change. Public-transport and taxi costs are not fixed; private-transfer prices are per vehicle (Mercedes Vito, up to 6 passengers), depend on the date and pickup time, and are fixed when you book.

International or Domestic terminal: where to go
Izmir Airport has two terminals, International and Domestic. Taxis, Havaş buses and the ESHOT night buses all leave from outside the arrivals exits of both. The İZBAN station, Adnan Menderes Havalimanı, is linked to both too:
- International Arrivals: follow the “Metro–İZBAN” signs and take the moving walkway.
- Domestic Arrivals: take the lifts or escalators opposite the arrivals exit.
Flying in from abroad via Istanbul with your bags checked through? You land at the domestic terminal but are directed to the international terminal for baggage claim and customs. İzmirim Kart cards are sold at the İZBAN ticket office (daily 07:00–14:40 and 15:00–22:40) and at Ekmekarası Café (International Arrivals) and Simpark Cafe (Domestic Arrivals).
Option 1: İZBAN train to Alsancak and Karşıyaka
İZBAN, Izmir's commuter railway, is the fastest public route into the city. Northbound trains reach Hilal in 24 minutes and Alsancak in 28, then carry on to Karşıyaka (50 minutes) with no change. The first train leaves at 05:12; from 05:51 to 22:06 there's one every 13 minutes, then fewer until the last at 00:54. İZBAN describes its times as approximate.
Payment is the tricky part: İZBAN takes only the İzmirim Kart, not bank cards. The ride to Alsancak costs ≈€0.70 (₺40). On entry, the fare to the end of the line is held on your card, so load more than a single fare. At your exit station, tap the card on the orange refund validator (within three hours) to get the difference back; if you forget, you pay for the whole line.
For Konak, change at Hilal to metro line M1, or ride to Alsancak and take the Konak tram from the Alsancak Gar stop, tapping your card again.
Option 2: Havaş airport buses
Havaş runs three routes useful for visitors from both arrivals floors. Times are planned around flights and can change, so check havas.net or call 0850 222 0 487 before you travel, and keep your passport to hand: ID details are recorded on intercity routes.
- Alsancak and Karşıyaka: ≈€4.50 (₺240) to Alsancak (Efes Hotel stop, about 30 minutes) and ≈€4.50 (₺250) to Karşıyaka and Mavişehir (about 70 minutes), but only five departures a day: 01:30, 02:30, 08:30, 10:00 and 11:30.
- Urla, Alaçatı and Çeşme: at 06:30, 08:00, then every two hours until 20:00, plus 22:30 and 02:30. About 60 minutes to Urla (≈€6.50 / ₺360), 75 minutes to Alaçatı bus terminal and 100 minutes to Çeşme bus station (≈€11 / ₺600 to either).
- Selçuk and Kuşadası: at 07:30, 09:30, every two hours from 11:00 to 21:00, plus 23:30 and 02:00. It stops in Selçuk outside the State Hospital and reaches Kuşadası bus station in about 90 minutes, for ≈€11 (₺600).
Option 3: ESHOT night buses
When the trains stop, four municipal ESHOT lines take over, each leaving three times a night, two hours apart: 202 to Cumhuriyet Meydanı in Alsancak via Fahrettin Altay (01:00, 03:00, 05:00), 200 to Karşıyaka and Mavişehir (01:20, 03:20, 05:20), 204 to the Otogar, Izmir's coach station, and Bornova (01:40, 03:40, 05:40), and 206 to Buca and Şirinyer (01:30, 03:30, 05:30). The fare is ≈€1.40 (₺77) with an İzmirim Kart or ≈€1.55 (₺86) with a contactless bank card. There are no daytime ESHOT buses from the airport.
Option 4: taxi
Taxis wait outside arrivals at both terminals around the clock. Izmir's meter tariff, in force since 30 April 2026, is ≈€0.70 (₺40) to start plus ≈€0.95 (₺54) per km, with a minimum fare of ≈€4 (₺210). That comes to about €17–22 (₺950–1,250) to Konak and ≈€22–27 (₺1,200–1,500) to Alsancak, before waiting time or tolls.
For longer trips, the airport taxi office publishes a price list: ≈€97 (₺5,400) to Çeşme, ≈€87 (₺4,850) to Alaçatı, ≈€68 (₺3,800) to Kuşadası and ≈€65 (₺3,600) to Selçuk centre. The meter must run on every trip, and you may pay either the meter amount or the list price; to Kuşadası the list price is lower. Ask before you set off whether motorway tolls are included.
Option 5: private transfer
Your driver tracks your flight, meets you just outside the arrivals exit (once you land, your driver contacts you on WhatsApp with the exact meeting point) and drives you straight to your hotel at a fixed price per vehicle agreed in advance. That matters most on the long runs to the coast, after a late landing or when no Havaş departure fits your flight. Prices: from €40 to Alsancak or Konak, from €51 to Selçuk and Ephesus, from €67 to Kuşadası, from €69 to Alaçatı and from €77 to Çeşme; the exact price depends on the date and pickup time. A Mercedes Vito seats up to 6 passengers with luggage. See every route on our Izmir Airport Transfer page, or compare airports on our transfer prices page.
Distances and drive times from Izmir Airport
| Destination | Road distance | Drive time (no traffic) | Public transport from the airport |
|---|---|---|---|
| Konak | 17 km | ~23 min | İZBAN to Hilal + metro M1, or to Alsancak + tram |
| Alsancak | 22 km | ~27 min | İZBAN, 28 min, no change |
| Karşıyaka | 29 km | ~35 min | İZBAN, 50 min, no change |
| Urla | 48 km | ~41 min | Havaş, ~60 min |
| Selçuk | 64 km | ~54 min | Havaş (Kuşadası bus), or İZBAN with a change at Tepeköy |
| Ephesus (South Gate) | 67 km | ~1 h | To Selçuk, then ~4 km by road |
| Kuşadası | 84 km | ~74 min | Havaş, ~90 min |
| Alaçatı | 87 km | ~63 min | Havaş, ~75 min |
| Çeşme | 96 km | ~68 min | Havaş, ~100 min |
Çeşme, Alaçatı and Urla
The direct Havaş bus is the simplest public option, and Urla, on the way, is on the same route. Çeşme Seyahat coaches also leave Izmir's Otogar about hourly from 06:30 to 22:15, stopping in Alaçatı and reaching Çeşme in about 1 hour 40 minutes, for ≈€7.50 (₺430). With no direct daytime public transport from the airport to the Otogar, though, the coach only makes sense after a night in the city.
Kuşadası, Selçuk and Ephesus
Besides the Havaş bus, many coach companies run from Izmir's Otogar to Kuşadası, usually for about €7 (₺400) and in 1 hour to 1 hour 45 minutes: a good choice if you spend a few days in the city first.
For Ephesus, head to Selçuk. There's no through train: take İZBAN to Tepeköy (33 minutes, every 26 minutes) and change to the Tepeköy–Selçuk shuttle (26 minutes), which runs only 14 times a day, so check the connection on izban.com.tr first. From Selçuk station, the South Gate of Ephesus is about 4 km by road. The Havaş Kuşadası bus avoids the change; a taxi costs ≈€65 (₺3,600) to Selçuk centre on the airport list, and a private transfer from €51.
Back to the airport
İZBAN trains leave Alsancak for the airport from 05:47 to 01:22 and take about 31 minutes. Havaş buses leave Çeşme bus station every two hours from 06:00 to 22:00, plus 03:00 (about two hours, via Alaçatı), and Kuşadası bus station every two hours from 07:00 to 23:00, plus 03:00 (about 90 minutes). You can book your return together with your arrival on our Izmir Airport Transfer page.
