How to Get from Izmir Airport (ADB) to Çeşme and Alaçatı
Short answer: Çeşme and Alaçatı are 87–96 km from Izmir Airport (ADB), about 65–70 minutes by car on the O-32 toll motorway when the road is clear. The only direct public option is the Havaş airport bus: ≈€11 (₺600) to Alaçatı or Çeşme, about 75 and 100 minutes, ten departures a day from 02:30 to 22:30. A taxi costs ≈€87 (₺4,850) to Alaçatı or ≈€97 (₺5,400) to Çeşme on the airport's list. A private transfer starts at €95 to Alaçatı and €100 to Çeşme per vehicle (Mercedes Vito, up to 6 passengers); the exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay.

The Çeşme peninsula is the Aegean end of the Izmir region, and almost everyone who flies into ADB for it faces the same 90-odd kilometres of motorway. Where your bed is matters more than the town name: Alaçatı, Çeşme centre, Ilıca and the resort strip around Dalyan and Çiftlikköy sit several kilometres apart, and the bus stops at only two of them. This guide covers every way to get there, the summer traffic, the last-stretch problem in Alaçatı and the ferry to Chios.
Where is your hotel? Distances and drive times
Road distances from the airport, with free-flow driving times (checked 19 October 2026). In July and August, or on a Friday evening, add time (see the traffic section below).
| Destination | Road distance | Drive time (clear road) | Bus stop on the Havaş line? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Urla (centre) | 49 km | ~45 min | Yes, Urla Terminal |
| Alaçatı old town | 87 km | ~63 min | Yes, Alaçatı Terminal |
| Ilıca | 89 km | ~66 min | No |
| Port Alaçatı / windsurf bay | 91 km | ~69 min | No |
| Boyalık | 93 km | ~70 min | No |
| Çeşme bus station | 95 km | ~67 min | Yes, end of the line |
| Çeşme centre (castle, marina, port) | 96 km | ~68 min | No (bus station is in town) |
| Çiftlikköy | 98–100 km | ~73–75 min | No |
| Dalyan (Çeşme) | 101 km | ~72–73 min | No |
Between the towns the distances are short: about 9.5 km (11 minutes) from Alaçatı to Çeşme and about 7 km (9 minutes) from Ilıca to Çeşme. The route is the Akçay Caddesi and ring road out of the airport, then the O-32 İzmir–Çeşme motorway.
- Çeşme centre: a compact area around the castle, marina and ferry port, with the Chios boats leaving from the town itself.
- Alaçatı: a stone-house old town with narrow lanes, and the windsurf bay a few kilometres away at Port Alaçatı.
- Ilıca: a thermal-spring and beach district east of Çeşme town, where many of the larger hotels stand.
- Urla: on the way, 49 km from the airport; the airport taxi list gives ≈€52 (₺2,900) to Urla pier.
- Dalyan, Boyalık and Çiftlikköy: quieter coast and resort areas further out, where a car to the door is far easier than any bus.

Havaş airport bus
Havaş is the one direct public service. Buses leave from the exit of the arrivals floors at both terminals and run to Urla, Alaçatı and Çeşme. The fare is ≈€6.50 (₺360) to Urla and ≈€11 (₺600) to Alaçatı or Çeşme, and the listed journey times are about 60, 75 and 100 minutes.
- Stops: Urla Terminal, Alaçatı Terminal (opposite the market place) and Çeşme bus station.
- Not on the route: Ilıca, Dalyan, Çiftlikköy and Boyalık. From Alaçatı or the Çeşme bus station you continue by taxi or local minibus, so a hotel in these areas adds a second leg and a wait with your bags.
- Tickets: a card ticket is sold only in the cardholder's name, and ID details are recorded on intercity routes, so have your passport to hand. Whether the buses take cash is something we could not confirm.
Havaş departure times, checked 19 October 2026
From the airport: 02:30, 06:30, 08:00, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00, 20:00 and 22:30. The timetable was identical for 20 October, 2 November and 1 December 2026, but check havas.net or call 0850 222 0 487 before you travel.
From Çeşme bus station to the airport: 03:00, 06:00, 08:00, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00, 20:00 and 22:00 (about 120 minutes). From Alaçatı: 20 minutes later, 03:20 to 22:20 (about 100 minutes).
The gaps are two hours, so the practical question is whether a departure suits your landing time once passport control and baggage claim are done. The bus is fine for one or two people travelling light to central Alaçatı or Çeşme. For four people it means four fares, plus a taxi at the other end if you are staying at Ilıca or Dalyan.
The coach from Izmir Otogar
Çeşme Seyahat runs the coaches between Izmir's main bus station (Otogar) and Çeşme, stopping in Alaçatı, Ilıca and Urla on the way. The fare is ≈€7.50 (₺430) to Çeşme or Alaçatı and the listed journey is 1 hour 40 minutes. We checked the operator's booking engine on 19 October 2026 for 20 and 25 October: 16 departures a day, at 06:30, 07:15, 08:00 and 09:00, then hourly from 10:00 to 20:00, and the last one at 21:15. In the other direction, the 16 coaches from Çeşme run from 06:30 to 21:30.
The catch is that the Otogar is not at the airport. A taxi from ADB to the bus station costs roughly €28–33 (₺1,550–1,850) on the meter, so coach plus taxi usually costs more and takes longer than the Havaş bus. The coach makes sense when you start the day in the city, and it is one of the few scheduled links with a stop in Ilıca, which the Havaş bus skips.
Taxi
Taxis wait at the arrivals exits of both terminals around the clock. The airport taxi office publishes a list for the peninsula: ≈€87 (₺4,850) to Alaçatı, ≈€94 (₺5,200) to Port Alaçatı and ≈€97 (₺5,400) to Çeşme. Dalyan and Çiftlikköy have their own, higher line, and Ilıca and Boyalık are not on the list at all, so agree the fare before you set off.
- Meter or list: the meter must run on every trip, and you may pay either the meter amount or the list price. Izmir's tariff is ≈€0.70 (₺40) to start and ≈€0.95 (₺54) per km, with no night rate. Our estimate on the meter is ≈€85–95 (₺4,700–5,300) to Alaçatı and ≈€94–105 (₺5,200–5,850) to Çeşme, and for these two the list is close to the meter.
- Tolls: the car toll on the motorway is ≈€0.95 (₺53). The list does not say whether it is included, so ask the driver before you go.
- Cards: card acceptance in taxis becomes mandatory on 16 November 2026. Until then, carry lira; we could not confirm whether the airport taxis take cards today.
Private transfer
For most people with a hotel outside central Alaçatı or Çeşme, a private transfer is the simplest answer: no second leg, no wait for a bus and no negotiating at the rank. Your driver tracks your flight and meets you just outside the arrivals exit. Once you land, the driver messages you on WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and a short video, and there is no extra charge for traffic or flight delays. Drivers speak English. Prices are per vehicle, not per person: see the pages for Izmir Airport to Çeşme (from €100), Izmir Airport to Alaçatı (from €95) and Izmir Airport to Urla (from €65).
A Mercedes Vito takes up to 6 passengers with luggage, a VIP Mercedes V-Class is available, and a Sprinter suits larger groups. Child seats are available on request. If you travel with windsurf or kite equipment or other bulky luggage, tell us when you book so the right vehicle is planned. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup. If you land from Istanbul or another Turkish airport with bags checked through, you may be sent to the International Arrivals for baggage claim; the driver's WhatsApp message shows where to go.
Summer traffic and the toll
The O-32 is a toll motorway, with ≈€0.95 (₺53) for a car from the Seferihisar (Güzelbahçe) entry to the Çeşme or Alaçatı exit (KGM tariff valid from 1 January 2026). The stations take electronic HGS only, with no cash lanes, so ask the hire desk how tolls are charged if you are driving yourself. A news report from April 2026 says the government plans to lease the motorway for 25 years, which could change tolls later; no date has been set.
No official figures exist for delays, so treat this as our advice, not a measured number. Expect queues on summer Fridays towards Çeşme, on Sunday evenings back towards Izmir, and at the start and end of the Ramazan and Kurban holidays. News reports of holiday-return jams have named the Narlıdere–Balçova junction area and Üçkuyular, close to the airport end of the road. As a rule of thumb, allow an extra 30 to 90 minutes at those times, and add the same buffer to the drive back to the airport for a flight.
Alaçatı old town: the last stretch
We found no official car ban or seasonal closure in Alaçatı. In practice, Kemalpaşa Caddesi and the lanes around it are narrow and full of pedestrians on summer evenings, so a driver stops at the nearest practical point and you walk the last part with your bags. Tell your hotel or guesthouse when you will arrive, and ask which side of the old town is easiest to approach. Çeşme's municipality has announced a pedestrian-priority square project around Atatürk Caddesi for 2027 (a plan, reported on 9 October 2026), so access may become stricter. Parking is tight in July and August, and we found no published municipal tariffs, so a hire car is rarely a help if you are staying in the old town.
Windsurf schools and wind guides give a season of roughly April or May to October, with the steadiest wind in July and August, a northerly meltemi that builds from around 11:00 in the bay at Port Alaçatı. These are third-party figures, not an official forecast.
The Chios ferry from Çeşme
The Çeşme–Chios boats leave from the port in Çeşme town (Ulusoy Liman), run by Ertürk Lines. We checked its timetable and fares on 19 October 2026.
- Crossing: about 17 minutes on the catamaran and about 40 minutes on the car ferry.
- Sailings: in the last two weeks of October a daily 09:00 from Çeşme and a return from Chios in the late afternoon; in November, Wednesday to Sunday mainly; in December, Friday to Sunday only. Check Ertürk's timetable for your date.
- Fares (high-speed craft, adult): €40 one way, €50 for a same-day or open return, €30 for a child aged 6–12; a car under 4.25 m is €100 one way.
- Check-in: at the port office. Ertürk's pages give both 1 hour and 1.5 hours before departure, so plan to be at the port 1 to 1.5 hours ahead; check-in closes 30 minutes before.
- Documents: a passport (and a Schengen visa where needed); EU citizens can use a valid EU ID card. Tickets are not refundable, although if a sailing is cancelled for weather the ticket stays open.
The Havaş bus is too slow for a morning boat: the 06:30 departure reaches Çeşme bus station around 08:10 on the listed time, which is already late for the 09:00 sailing. You need to arrive the evening before, or land early and take a private transfer.
Back to the airport
Allow more time than the drive suggests, particularly on Sunday evenings in summer. The Havaş buses to the airport take about 100 minutes from Alaçatı and about 120 from Çeşme, and the last Çeşme Seyahat coach back to the Otogar leaves at 21:30. You can book the return together with your arrival on the Izmir Airport Transfer page. The exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Çeşme from Izmir Airport?
About 96 km to Çeşme centre and 87 km to Alaçatı old town, around 65–70 minutes by car on the O-32 motorway when the road is clear. Ilıca is 89 km, Dalyan 101 km and Çiftlikköy 98–100 km.
Is there a direct bus from Izmir Airport to Çeşme and Alaçatı?
Yes. Havaş buses leave from outside the arrivals floors ten times a day (02:30, 06:30, 08:00, then every two hours to 20:00, and 22:30). They take about 75 minutes to Alaçatı and 100 minutes to Çeşme bus station for ≈€11 (₺600). Ilıca, Dalyan, Çiftlikköy and Boyalık are not stops.
Can I take the Çeşme Seyahat coach from the airport?
No. Çeşme Seyahat coaches leave from Izmir's Otogar (main bus station), not the airport. The fare is ≈€7.50 (₺430), the journey about 1 hour 40 minutes, and the last departure to Çeşme is at 21:15.
How much is a taxi from Izmir Airport to Çeşme or Alaçatı?
The airport taxi list gives ≈€97 (₺5,400) to Çeşme and ≈€87 (₺4,850) to Alaçatı. You may pay the meter or the list price instead, and the motorway toll (≈€0.95 / ₺53) may be extra, so ask the driver before you set off.
How much is a private transfer to Alaçatı or Çeşme?
From €95 to Alaçatı and from €100 to Çeşme per vehicle, not per person (Mercedes Vito, up to 6 passengers). The exact price for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.
How bad is the traffic to Çeşme in summer?
There are no official figures. Expect queues on summer Friday afternoons towards Çeşme, Sunday evenings back to Izmir and at the start and end of bayram holidays. As a rule of thumb, allow an extra 30–90 minutes at those times.
Can cars drive into Alaçatı old town?
We found no official ban, but the lanes are narrow and crowded on summer evenings, so cars stop at the nearest practical point and you walk the last stretch. The municipality has announced a pedestrian-priority square project for 2027.
Can I reach the Chios ferry straight from the airport?
Only with an early flight and a transfer. Ertürk Lines sails from Çeşme port, check-in is 1–1.5 hours before departure, and the daily sailing in late October is at 09:00. The 06:30 Havaş bus arrives too late for it. A fast boat costs €40 one way for an adult.
Heading to Çeşme, Alaçatı or Urla?
