Izmir Airport to Urla: Transfer, Havaş and the Wine Route
Short answer: Urla is about 48 km west of Izmir Airport (ADB), and the drive takes 40 to 55 minutes in normal traffic. The simplest way is a private transfer from €65 per vehicle, with the exact price for your date shown before you pay. The Havaş airport bus to Urla costs ≈€6.50 (₺360) per person and takes about an hour, but it stops at the town bus terminal, not at a winery or an İskele hotel. A taxi on the meter runs ≈€47–54 (₺2,600–3,000). Once you arrive, Urla is a day of olive groves, a free archaeological site at Klazomenai and tastings on the wine route.

Urla sits on the road to Çeşme, but it is a different kind of place: a small Aegean town with a harbour, a quarantine island offshore, olive groves in every direction and a cluster of wineries inland. Most visitors stay one or two nights. This guide covers how to get there from ADB, what each option costs, and what is worth seeing once you arrive.
Izmir Airport to Urla: Your Options
| Option | Journey time | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 40–55 min | from €65 per vehicle | Luggage, families, wineries and hotels outside the town centre, late arrivals |
| Havaş airport bus | About 60 min (listed) | ≈€6.50 (₺360) per person | One or two travellers staying in the town centre |
| Taxi from the rank | 40–55 min | Meter ≈€47–54 (₺2,600–3,000); airport list ≈€52 (₺2,900) to Urla İskele | Going without a booking |
| İZBAN, metro and city bus | Long, with changes | Local fares | Light bags and plenty of time |
Distances and drive times come from routing data and our route page. They assume a clear road, so add time on summer Friday evenings and at the start of holiday weekends, when the motorway fills with traffic to Çeşme.
Option 1: Private Transfer
Our driver tracks your flight and waits just outside the arrivals exit. After you land, the driver sends the exact meeting point and a short video on WhatsApp. Drivers speak English. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and there is no extra charge for traffic or flight delays. A Mercedes Vito takes up to 6 passengers with luggage, a V-Class VIP suits couples and small groups, and a Sprinter fits a larger party. Child seats are available on request.
The transfer to Urla starts from €65 per vehicle, and the exact figure for your date and pickup time is shown before you pay. The booking form and route details are on our Izmir Airport to Urla page, and the return leg is at Urla to Izmir Airport.
The car leaves the airport on Akçay Caddesi, joins the Izmir ring road and then runs west on the Çeşme motorway, leaving at the Urla junction. The ring road is the unpredictable part. Many Urla stays are not on a street you can find on a map: wineries and small pensions sit on narrow rural roads, and some appear unnamed on navigation apps. Send us the exact name of your winery or pension when you book, and the driver will plan the last stretch. In İskele, restaurant tables fill the waterfront on summer evenings, so the driver may have to stop a short walk from your door.
Option 2: Havaş Airport Bus
Havaş runs a direct bus from ADB to Urla, and it is the one public service that does not need a change. The fare is ≈€6.50 (₺360) per person and the listed journey is about 60 minutes. Buses leave from the exit of the arrivals floors, and Urla is a stop on the longer Çeşme line, so the bus carries on to Alaçatı and Çeşme afterwards. Havaş listed 10 departures a day on 18 and 19 October 2026: 02:30, 06:30, 08:00, then every two hours from 10:00 to 20:00, and 22:30. Coming back, buses leave the Urla terminal at 04:00, 07:00, 09:00 and then every two hours to 23:00. Timetables change with the season, so check havas.net before you plan around a particular departure.
Two things to know before you choose the bus:
- It stops at the terminal in town. The Urla İlçe Terminali is not at a winery, the İskele seafront or most hotels. Most guests need a short taxi from there with their bags.
- Night and early arrivals. The 02:30 bus is the only one between 22:30 and 06:30. If your flight lands after 22:00, check the timing carefully, because a missed bus leaves you with a taxi or a transfer anyway.
Havaş sells tickets to the cardholder, and ID details may be recorded on intercity routes. For the full list of airport buses and trains, see our Izmir Airport bus and train guide.
Option 3: Taxi
Official taxis wait outside both arrivals exits around the clock, with no night rate. The meter tariff is a start charge plus a rate per kilometre, and for Urla we estimate ≈€47–54 (₺2,600–3,000) on the meter. The airport taxi list gives ≈€52 (₺2,900) to Urla İskele (the pier), which sits inside that range. These are estimates, not official fares for your exact address. The list does not say whether the Çeşme motorway toll is included, so ask the driver before you leave the rank, and agree how you will pay. Our Izmir Airport taxi prices guide explains how the airport taxi office works. A transfer with the price shown in advance is easier to compare, and for a winery address it saves explaining the way to a driver who may not know the estate.
The Slow Public Route
There is also a city route with no airport bus involved. Take İZBAN from the airport station to Hilal or Halkapınar, change to the Izmir metro (M1) to Fahrettin Altay, then board an ESHOT city bus to Urla: line 984, which runs via Urla İskele, or the express line 684. Routes, timetables and fares change, so check them with ESHOT before you set off. It is the cheapest way and the slowest, with two changes, and it makes little sense with suitcases. Our Izmirim Kart guide explains the card you need for the train and metro.
Where to Stay in Urla
Urla is about 35 km west of central Izmir and spreads across three zones, which affects where the driver takes you:
- The town centre. Boutique hotels and guesthouses, cafés and the bus terminal. Best if you plan to use the Havaş bus.
- İskele. The town's harbour, facing Karantina Island, a quarantine station set up in 1865. It has restaurants along the waterfront and is lively in summer.
- The wine road. Several wineries rent rooms among the vineyards. These estates are reached by rural roads, and you need a car or a driver to get to them.
If you want the beach and nightlife of the peninsula further on, see Izmir Airport to Çeşme and Alaçatı. Urla is on the way, and the same motorway serves both.
Klazomenai
Urla stands on the site of Klazomenai, one of the Ionian cities of the ancient Aegean. Its best-known find is an olive oil press from the 6th century BC, described as the oldest attested olive oil production facility. For visitors, the site is open every day from 08:30 to 17:30, with the ticket office closing at 17:00, and entry is free, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (muze.gov.tr) on 22 October 2026. Those are summer hours, and winter hours are usually shorter, so check muze.gov.tr before you go.
In a navigation app, search for Klazomenai near Urla, or show the driver the site name. The site is a short drive from the town, so a taxi from the centre or İskele is the easy way. Expect an open-air site with ruins and little shade, so wear sturdy shoes and take water. The Urla municipality website (urla.bel.tr) also promotes an olive oil workshop under the Klazomenai name; ask the municipality or your hotel about visiting times.
Urla Bağ Yolu: The Wine Route
The Urla wine road (Urla Bağ Yolu) is part of the Izmir Vineyard Route. GoTürkiye, the national tourism site, describes chateau-style local wineries among the vineyards, and lists both international grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay and local varieties such as Bornova Misketi and Boğazkere. Some wineries also have restaurants or rooms, and the area is used for cycling and walking.
How a visit works in practice:
- Book ahead. Tastings are usually by reservation, so message or phone the winery before you go. Do not turn up unannounced.
- Hours vary. Tastings are usually offered between late morning and early evening, and some estates open mainly in the summer months. Confirm the day and time with each winery.
- Pick a few, not all. The wineries are spread across rural roads. Two or three tastings with a meal make a full day.
- Do not drive after tasting. This is the strongest reason to use a driver. If you want a driver to take you between wineries, ask us on WhatsApp before booking, and we will tell you what is possible and quote for it.
We do not list winery names here, because opening policies change from year to year. Search the Urla Bağ Yolu list on GoTürkiye or ask your hotel to book.
The harvest is the busiest time on the route. Urla also holds a grape harvest festival and an artichoke festival; check the dates with the municipality or your accommodation.
Other Things to See Around Urla
GoTürkiye's list of sights in the area includes Limantepe and Karantina Island at İskele, the ancient site of Klazomenai, the sunset at Çeşmealtı, the Köstem Olive Oil Museum and the village of Barbaros. Opening times vary, so confirm them locally. Olive groves cover much of the district, and olive oil is sold across the town. Karantina Island is a former quarantine station, and you can see it across the water from the İskele waterfront.
A Suggested Plan
- Day of arrival. Take the transfer or the bus, check in, and walk the İskele waterfront for dinner.
- Morning. Klazomenai while the site is cool, then coffee in the town centre.
- Afternoon. One or two reserved tastings on the wine road, with lunch at one of them.
- Last day. Leave a margin before your flight. The drive back to ADB takes about the same time as the drive out, and the motorway can be slow on Sunday evenings in summer.
For a late landing, see arriving in Izmir at night. If you are combining Urla with a city stay or a coastal trip, our Pergamon guide and Kuşadası and Ephesus guide cover the other long day trips from ADB.
Practical Tips
- Cash and cards: carry some lira for small purchases, and check with each winery how it takes payment.
- Booking: the price is shown before you pay. You can see all Izmir Airport transfer options or compare routes on the transfer prices page.
- Season: summer is busy and the road is slower. Some wineries open mainly in summer, so ask before you plan a visit outside the season.
- Address: send the exact name of your hotel or winery, not just "Urla", so the driver can plan the last stretch.
