Izmir Airport to Sığacık and Seferihisar
Short answer: Sığacık and Seferihisar are about 55 km from Izmir Airport (ADB), roughly 50 minutes by car on Google's figures, across the peninsula to the Aegean coast. A private transfer costs from €75 per vehicle, with the exact price for your date shown before you pay. The Havaş airport bus does not serve Seferihisar. The airport taxi office lists ≈€58 (₺3,250) for Seferihisar and ≈€67 (₺3,700) for Sığacık. By public transport you change several times: İZBAN, the metro and two ESHOT buses. Once there, Sığacık is a castle village you can walk around in an afternoon, with a farmers' market on Sundays and the ruins of Teos a short drive away.

Seferihisar is the district; Sığacık is its harbour village, built inside a small Ottoman castle. Most visitors come for Sığacık, the Sunday market, Teos and the beaches, and the airport bus does not go there.
Izmir Airport to Sığacık and Seferihisar: Your Options
| Option | Journey time | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | About 50 min (Google), up to 65 min in summer traffic | from €75 per vehicle | Luggage, families, late arrivals, castle-village addresses |
| Havaş airport bus | No service to Seferihisar | Not available | The nearest Havaş stop is Urla, ≈€6.50 (₺360) per person |
| Taxi from the rank | About 50 min | Airport list: ≈€58 (₺3,250) to Seferihisar, ≈€67 (₺3,700) to Sığacık | Going without a booking |
| İZBAN, metro and two ESHOT buses | Not published; several changes | Local fares, paid in stages | Light bags and a very flexible day |
Distances and drive times come from Google routing and assume a clear road. On summer Friday evenings and at the start of holiday weekends the roads towards the Çeşme motorway fill with traffic, so add time.
Option 1: Private Transfer
Our driver tracks your flight and waits just outside the arrivals exit. After you land, the driver sends the exact meeting point and a short video on WhatsApp. Drivers speak English. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and there is no extra charge for traffic or flight delays. A Mercedes Vito takes up to 6 passengers with luggage, a V-Class VIP suits couples and small groups, and a Sprinter fits a larger party. Child seats are available on request.
The transfer to Seferihisar and Sığacık starts from €75 per vehicle. The booking form is on our Izmir Airport to Seferihisar page, and the return leg is at Seferihisar to Izmir Airport.
The car leaves the airport area, joins the Izmir ring road and follows the Çeşme motorway to the Güzelbahçe junction, then takes the local road south. A slower coastal road runs through Menderes, Gümüldür and Ürkmez, longer in distance and time; it is the scenic choice if you are not in a hurry.
The last stretch matters more than the motorway. The lanes inside Sığacık's castle are narrow, and cars generally stop at the edge of the old village or beside Teos Marina, so you may walk the last part with your bags. Send us the exact name of your hotel or pension when you book. The driver will then send a short WhatsApp video showing where the car will wait.
Option 2: Taxi
Official taxis wait outside the arrivals exits around the clock, with no night rate. The airport taxi office price list, dated 1 May 2026, gives ≈€58 (₺3,250) to Seferihisar and ≈€67 (₺3,700) to Sığacık. The list does not say whether motorway tolls are included, so ask the driver before you leave the rank and agree how you will pay. Our Izmir Airport taxi prices guide explains how the airport taxi office works. The ride is long, so agree the price first.
Why There Is No Airport Bus
Havaş does not run to Seferihisar or Sığacık. On 25 October 2026 the Havaş booking system listed destinations from ADB in Aydın, Kuşadası, Manisa, Alsancak, Karşıyaka and Mavişehir, Urla, Alaçatı and Çeşme, and nothing in Seferihisar. The nearest Havaş stop is Urla, and ESHOT line 732 links Urla and Seferihisar, with about 14 trips each way on weekdays and only a few on Sundays at the time of writing. That is a clumsy route with a change in between, and we would not plan around it with luggage. For the airport coaches that do exist, see our Izmir Airport bus and train guide.
Option 3: The Public Route, Step by Step
There is no direct public service. It is the cheapest way across the peninsula, but it has several changes and no published door-to-door time, so allow a good part of the day. It makes little sense with large suitcases.
- İZBAN from the airport to Hilal. The airport station is in front of the Domestic Terminal. The train takes about 24 minutes to Hilal and runs roughly every 13 minutes through the day, from around 05:00 to after midnight (timetable of 18 October 2026). The first 20 km cost ≈€0.70 (₺40) with an İzmirim Kart, then the fare rises by distance.
- Metro M1 from Hilal to Fahrettin Altay. It is about nine stops, and the fare is ≈€0.65 (₺35) with an İzmirim Kart. Transfers within 90 minutes between İZBAN and the metro are covered.
- ESHOT bus from Fahrettin Altay to Seferihisar. Lines 975 and 985 are run by İZTAŞIT, and 675 is the express via the ring road. The open data of 25 October 2026 lists line 975 from the Fahrettin Altay transfer centre from about 06:00 until after 01:00 on weekdays, every 10 to 25 minutes, and 675 about every 15 to 30 minutes from about 06:00 to 21:45. Weekend timetables differ, so check ESHOT before you go.
- ESHOT 640 from Seferihisar to Sığacık. It runs via Akkum Caddesi and Sığacık Caddesi, about every 40 to 45 minutes from about 06:00. The last departure listed from Seferihisar is around 22:15, so a late landing may leave you with a taxi for the last leg. The fare is a flat ₺35 under the İzmir tariff in force from 1 April 2026.
The fare rule for the Seferihisar buses is different from the city buses. Lines 675, 975 and 985 are on the pay-by-distance tariff: ₺33 for the first 10 km, then ₺1.10 for each further kilometre, at the time of writing. There is no 90-minute transfer right on these lines, so you pay again when you board, and the tariff table shows no credit-card price for them, so carry an İzmirim Kart. Local reports say you should tap the card again on the rear validator when you get off. If you do not, you may be charged to the last stop. Our Izmirim Kart guide explains how to buy and top up the card.
Fares and timetables change, so check them with ESHOT and İZBAN before you set off.
Sığacık: The Castle Village
Sığacık is one of the few castles in the region where daily life continues inside the walls, with houses, mosques, shops and restaurants. The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's tourism site describes it as a lived-in quarter that also serves as a stage for theatre and concerts. No hours or entry fee are listed for the village itself, which is an open quarter rather than a museum.
The castle in its present form dates from 1521–22, ahead of Süleyman the Magnificent's Rhodes campaign, and stone from ancient Teos was reused in the rebuild. Some sources trace an earlier fort on the site, and the municipality's tourism site refers to a Seljuk-period origin. There is no building inscription, so the dates differ between sources. Inside the walls, the Sığacık Mosque with its bath and madrasa dates from 1522 and is still in use.
A walk around the castle lanes, the harbour and the marina takes an easy afternoon. Teos Marina lies beside the village.
The Sunday Market
On Sundays the castle hosts a farmers' market that sells only products grown by farmers from Seferihisar, according to the Izmir tourism site. Hours are not published. Visitors advise going early, because produce sells out by early afternoon. Bring a bag and some cash for small purchases.
Seferihisar and Cittaslow
Seferihisar was the first Türkiye member of the Cittaslow network, a "slow city" movement. The municipality's announcement says the application was accepted by the network's international committee in Italy, and the announcement is dated January 2010. Cittaslow's international list shows Seferihisar under Türkiye. The Cittaslow Türkiye page for the town mentions two theories of its founding, by the Etruscans or by the Ionians, and names Teos, Lebedos, Myonnesos island, madrasas and hamams.
Seferihisar town is the district centre, a few kilometres from Sığacık, and the ESHOT buses from Izmir arrive there.
Teos
Teos was one of the Ionian cities, and Herodotus called it "the most moderate place in the world". The ministry says it has been inhabited since the Protogeometric period, in the 11th century BC. The site is at Teos Caddesi No:59, a short drive from the castle. It has a shop, toilets and a car park.
- Temple of Dionysus. It is attributed to Hermogenes, the leading Hellenistic architect.
- Theatre and bouleuterion. The theatre sits at the foot of the Archaic acropolis, and the bouleuterion is the council chamber.
- Harbour and pier. The ministry notes that the South Harbour pier is among the best-preserved ancient piers on the Anatolian coast.
- Other remains. They include an Archaic temple, the agora and its temple, a cistern and ancient roads.
The fee for foreign visitors is 3 euros in 2026, and foreign children aged 0 to 8 enter free. The ministry's published 2027 list shows 5 euros from 1 April 2027 and marks the site as open to MüzeKart holders. The site is open every day, including weekends. The summer hours (1 April to 1 October) are 08:30 to 19:00 with the last ticket at 18:30. The winter hours (1 October to 1 April) are 08:30 to 17:30 with the last ticket at 17:00, and these apply now. Check the ministry's page before you go, because hours and fees change.
There is little shade among the ruins, so wear sturdy shoes and take water. A taxi from Sığacık is the easy way to get there.
Akkum and the Beaches
Akkum is the long beach on the coast road a short way from the castle village, and ESHOT 640 runs along Akkum Caddesi. Büyük Akkum Halk Plajı was listed among Seferihisar's Blue Flag beaches for the 2026 season in local news in July 2026, and the official Blue Flag map lists Büyük Akkum Plajı. The flag is awarded season by season, so check mavibayrak.org.tr for the current status.
Further up the coast, Gümüldür is in the neighbouring Menderes district and is known for its satsuma oranges. We have transfer pages for Gümüldür and Menderes if you are staying there.
A Suggested Plan
- Day of arrival. Take the transfer, check in and walk the castle lanes and the harbour before dinner.
- Morning. Teos while the site is cool, then coffee in Sığacık.
- Afternoon. A swim at Akkum.
- Last day. Leave a margin before your flight. The drive back to ADB takes about the same time as the drive out.
For a late landing, see arriving in Izmir at night. If you are comparing the peninsula's two directions, our guides to Urla and the wine route and to Çeşme and Alaçatı cover the north and west.
Practical Tips
- Address: send the exact name of your hotel or pension, not just "Sığacık", so the driver can plan the last stretch.
- Booking: the price is shown before you pay. You can see all Izmir Airport transfer options or compare routes on the transfer prices page.
- Season: summer weekends are slower on the roads and busy at the beaches. Winter hours at Teos are shorter.
- Stops on the way: if you want to add a stop, ask us on WhatsApp before booking.
