Menderes is the district directly south of the airport, and its centre, formerly Cumaovası, lies only a few kilometres from the terminals. A private car turns a short hop into a door-to-door arrival in about a quarter of an hour. Your driver waits just outside the arrivals exit, and the guide below covers where to tell him to go.

A short hop down the D-550
The airport shares the D-550 corridor with Menderes. The driver goes south on the old İzmir–Aydın road to Cumaovası, normally in 10 to 20 minutes. Even a late-night arrival does not need a long transfer, which makes this one of the easiest trips from the airport. Because the distance is short, the real time is spent on meeting, collecting luggage and finding the right neighbourhood.
Which Menderes do you mean?
The district is large. It was created in 1988 around Cumaovası, it is mainly agricultural, and it stretches to a coastline of more than 40 km on the Aegean, with the resorts of Gümüldür and Özdere. The ruins of Kolophon, Klaros and Notion lie close together along the Menderes–Selçuk road. The airport itself is in Gaziemir but carries the same name, so please give the neighbourhood name and a pin; one word on a booking can mean the town, a village inland or a seaside resort.
Resorts on the coast
If you are heading for Özdere or Gümüldür, check whether that route has its own page, because the road to the coast is a different journey from this one.
What the drop-off looks like
Streets in the town are ordinary and easy to stop on, so the driver can pull up to your door. The visitors we usually carry here are people returning home after a trip, relatives of residents and business guests of farms and warehouses. Few hotels stand in the inland centre; most of the district's hotels are on the coast.
Meeting after you land
Each terminal has its own arrivals floor. Walk to the exit of the one you landed in; once you are on the ground, the driver sends a WhatsApp message with the meeting spot and a short video, and he speaks English. We follow your flight, so a late landing or slow baggage claim costs nothing extra.
Train or taxi instead?
İZBAN runs one stop south from the airport station to Cumaovası, where ESHOT's Cumaovası transfer centre serves the local neighbourhoods, for example on line 814. That is the lowest-cost way with one bag and a daytime flight. After dark, with a stroller or when the final address is outside the centre, a taxi or booked car is simpler. History along the road
If you have time to spare, the ruins of Kolophon, Klaros and Notion stand close together along the Menderes–Selçuk road. They are a short drive from the district centre, so a stay near Cumaovası can be combined with a visit. Ask us whether a stop can be arranged around your plans.
When the hotel is not in the town
Quite a few guests arrive here for farm visits or family occasions in a village rather than in the town. The district is mainly agricultural, so the final address can be a house among fields. In that case, send the village name and, if possible, the contact number of your host. A person on the phone helps a lot when the lanes have no signs. The driver will still meet you at the exit and then call the host when you are close.
🔁 Going home: Menderes back to İzmir Airport
You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
From Menderes the drive back takes about 15 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 3½ hours before departure, and about 2½ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 14:30 and 14:30.
Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
