From the arrivals exit to Balçova
The route heads out of Gaziemir along Akçay Caddesi and then onto the toll-free İzmir Ring Road (O-30), westbound, leaving at the Balçova and Üçkuyular exits. Off-peak, the drive takes 20 to 30 minutes; at the weekday rush hours, count on 35 to 50. Landing around the end of the working day is the one time to expect the slower end of that range.
What Balçova offers a visitor
The district sits on the southern shore of the inner Gulf of İzmir, roughly eight kilometres west of the centre. Its best-known attraction is the Agamemnon Baths area, where sulphurous hot springs have been used since antiquity, and thermal and spa hotels cluster around it. A cable car climbs the hill behind the town, and the İnciraltı Sea Museum shows a decommissioned submarine and frigate. We have not checked the cable car's current opening times, so confirm them locally before you plan a visit around it.
Besides the springs, Balçova is a commercial district with shopping malls, which is why you will see both spa guests and business travellers on this transfer.
Drop-off at thermal hotels and malls
Thermal hotels and the malls have their own forecourts, so the driver can pull up right at reception and help with the cases. Around İnciraltı, the seafront roads are wide and easy. Up toward the cable car the roads are residential and climb a hillside, so if you are staying in a smaller guesthouse there, send the address pin when you book.
Metro or private transfer to Balçova?
Public transport works if you pack lightly. İZBAN runs from Adnan Menderes Havalimanı to Hilal, where you change to the İzmir Metro M1 westbound for Balçova or Çağdaş, stations that opened in February 2024 as part of the Narlıdere extension. There is no Havaş coach to Balçova. With two changes, stairs and a suitcase, many guests choose a car for the last stretch, especially when arriving late.
Arriving late, or planning to use the city
Balçova works well as a base because it lies only about eight kilometres west of the centre and has its own metro stations, so many spa guests use us for the airport legs and the M1 line for sightseeing. A landing near midnight is where a car matters most: İZBAN's network shows a first departure at 05:20 and a last arrival at the terminus around 01:23, so the small hours are not covered by rail. Tell your hotel your expected arrival time so the night desk is ready when the driver brings you to the door.
Families with children can ask the driver to wait while they check in, as the hotel forecourts are usually large enough for a Vito or a Sprinter.

🔁 Going home: Balçova back to İzmir Airport
You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
From Balçova the drive back takes about 20 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 3½–3¾ hours before departure, and about 2½–2¾ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 14:15 and 14:30.
Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
