Balçova is close enough to Adnan Menderes that a flight can be caught without a pre-dawn start, if the ring road behaves. Your driver comes to your hotel, apartment or thermal resort at the time you set and delivers you to the departures door of the right terminal.

Setting the pickup time from Balçova
The trip back to the airport takes 20 to 30 minutes in calm traffic and 35 to 50 minutes when the İzmir Ring Road (O-30) is heavy. The tricky window is the weekday rush, when the ring road is at its slowest. For an international flight, a pickup about three and a half to four hours before departure leaves comfortable room for check-in and passport control; for a domestic flight, roughly an hour less is plenty.
Leaving a thermal hotel or a city flat
Many guests here stay near the Agamemnon Baths, where thermal hotels have their own forecourts and the car can wait directly at reception. Some spend a last morning at the sea museum in İnciraltı, or ride the cable car before heading out; we have not checked the cable car's current opening hours, so confirm them before you plan around it. If your base is a flat on a residential hillside, share a map pin and the building number, as the streets there are narrower.
Checking out of a spa hotel often takes longer than expected, because the final bill covers treatments. Give yourself fifteen minutes beyond the time you think you need.
Check your terminal before the car arrives
Adnan Menderes airport has an International Terminal and a separate Domestic Terminal, two buildings side by side. Your driver stops at the departures entrance of whichever one your flight uses, so tell us on booking.
Metro, İZBAN or a private car?
The rail route exists: İzmir Metro M1 from Balçova or Çağdaş to Hilal, then İZBAN to Adnan Menderes Havalimanı station, which sits in front of the Domestic Terminal. Signed Metro–İZBAN routes with a moving walkway link it to the International Terminal. It is cheap, but needs a change, and ESHOT's airport buses run only at night, so a daytime bus is not an option. Luggage for a week of spa treatments does not make the change any easier.
Your last hours in Balçova
If your flight leaves in the evening, the day leaves room for a final soak, a walk by the sea at İnciraltı or a stop at one of the malls. Ask the hotel to hold your bags at reception until the car arrives, and give the driver a realistic time rather than an optimistic one. The İnciraltı Sea Museum, with its decommissioned submarine and frigate, makes an easy last outing for a family; we have not verified its opening hours, so check them before you plan around it. For an early flight, remember that İZBAN does not start until 05:20, so a booked car covers the hours before the first train.
Anyone planning the rail route should note that the metro stations at Balçova and Çağdaş opened only in February 2024, as part of the Narlıdere extension, so older maps and printed guides may leave them out.

🛫 Balçova to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 20 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Balçova plan a pickup about 3½–3¾ hours before an international flight and 2½–2¾ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 10:15 and 10:30.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.
