From Narlıdere the airport is one of the easier departures in İzmir: head east along the ring road, pass the city and arrive in Gaziemir in about half an hour. A driver collects you at your door, helps with bags and drops you at the departures entrance, so the only question left is how early to leave.

Choosing the pickup hour
For an international flight most travellers leave home about three and a half hours before departure; for a domestic one, around two and a half. The ride is 25 to 35 minutes in calm traffic, and weekday rush hours can push it towards 55 minutes. On a weekday, take the longer figure.
Being collected in a residential district
Narlıdere has more apartment blocks than hotels. Many sit behind gates with a guard, and a van cannot always wait on the street. Tell us the block or site name when booking, and have your luggage by the entrance at the agreed hour. On the coast road there is hardly any space to stop, so the driver may use a side street, and on the upper lanes where the roads climb away from the sea he will go as close as the width allows.
Heavy cases and stairs
If the building has no lift and your cases are large, mention it so the driver is ready to carry them to the car.
Metro and İZBAN, step by step
The İzmir Metro M1 starts at Narlıdere Kaymakamlık, the last stop of the line, which opened in 2024. Ride it to Hilal, change to İZBAN and the train will stop at the airport station in front of the domestic terminal; international passengers follow the signs and the moving walkway. This is cheap and avoids road traffic, but it adds a change of platform and leaves you carrying cases. The first İZBAN trains of the day leave at around 05:20, so a pre-dawn flight needs a car in any case.
Which terminal do you need?

What to have ready at the door
A flight morning goes more smoothly if the passports, tickets and keys are in one bag and the luggage is by the entrance before the driver arrives. In gated complexes, tell the guard that a vehicle is coming so the barrier does not hold it up. If you live on one of the upper lanes, walking the cases down to the main street can save time when a van cannot turn. Give the driver an accurate phone number so you can agree on the spot quickly, and he will wait while you load up.
Leaving for a long trip
Families often depart with several suitcases and a stroller for a holiday abroad. Counting seats and bags beforehand helps; a Vito takes up to six passengers and seven bags, and a Sprinter fits a larger group.
After you reach Gaziemir
The journey ends where the ring road meets Akçay Caddesi and the airport turn-off. International passengers go to the larger terminal; the domestic building is next door with a bridge to the İZBAN station.
🛫 Narlıdere to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 25 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Narlıdere plan a pickup about 3½–3¾ hours before an international flight and 2½–2¾ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 10:15 and 10:30.
