After the ruins, the Selçuk to İzmir airport transfer is the quiet part of the trip. A driver collects you from your hotel, guesthouse or pension at the time you choose and takes you north on the motorway to the departures entrance at Adnan Menderes, with luggage loaded and the day's route sorted before you wake.

Planning your last day around Ephesus
Many guests squeeze Ephesus into the morning, when the ruins are cooler and quieter, and fly in the evening. That works well because the road north is easy and the ride lasts roughly 50 to 65 minutes. Leave the ruins with a margin, go back to your room for the bags and let the driver collect you from reception. If you are leaving at dawn instead, settle your bill the night before and agree the exact pickup time on WhatsApp. Whatever your plan, the aim is to be sitting in the car well before you need to be, not racing the clock on the motorway.
Think about luggage at the start of the day. Bazaar purchases, extra layers for the hilltop breeze and the day's souvenirs all end up in the boot. The road back to ADB
From Selçuk the car follows the D-550 to the Belevi junction, climbs onto the İzmir–Aydın Motorway and runs north past Torbalı to the airport. The motorway is the reason the journey is predictable, so traffic matters less here than on the coastal roads. The exceptions are summer weekends and the days when a cruise ship has unloaded excursion coaches at Ephesus.
Pickup points in town, on the hill and at the coast
- Guesthouses around Ayasuluk Hill and the station are usually reachable by car to the door.
- Şirince's cobbled centre is largely pedestrian, so the driver waits at the village edge and you walk down with your bags.
- Resorts along Pamucak Beach are on the coast to the west, a few minutes more to reach; give the full name of the hotel.
Arriving at the right ADB terminal
Adnan Menderes has separate international and domestic terminal buildings. Open your boarding pass before leaving Selçuk and tell the driver which airline and terminal apply, because walking between the two with a suitcase is slow. Most travellers aim to be at the terminal two to three hours before an international departure.
Train, coach or private car
Selçuk has its own railway station, and İZBAN trains run towards the airport, though the pattern of through trains changes during the day and you should look at izban.com.tr first. The Havaş coach on the Kuşadası line also calls at Selçuk near the State Hospital, so check its current times too. A private transfer gives you a pickup at your hotel at your own time, and the driver follows your flight in case the schedule moves.

🛫 Selçuk to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 45 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Selçuk plan a pickup about 4–4½ hours before an international flight and 3–3½ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 09:30 and 10:00.

- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.
