Flying out of Adnan Menderes after time on the south-west coast is a journey that has to be planned backwards from check-in. Your private car collects you in or around Dalaman at an agreed hour, covers roughly four hours of road via Muğla and Aydın, and drops you at the departures entrance of the right İzmir terminal.
✅ What's Included
Leaving the Dalaman area for an İzmir flight
If your return ticket is from İzmir rather than from Dalaman Airport, you have a day of road ahead. Dalaman itself is a small town on a coastal plain, and most visitors collect from nearby resorts such as Sarıgerme or Göcek, with Dalyan and Fethiye also within reach. Fix the pickup address with us when you book, and the driver will confirm the exact spot with you on WhatsApp.
How early to start
Count about four hours of driving, possibly four and a half in peak season, then your airline's check-in time, then a safety margin. For an international flight leaving ADB at 17:00, a pickup around 08:30 or 09:00 leaves room for a proper stop. Flights before noon call for a departure the day before, or a very early start, and the driver is used to both.
- Stock up on snacks and water before you leave, so the stops can stay short.
- Have your boarding pass on your phone so you do not need to dig into suitcases.
- Tell the driver at pickup if any passenger prefers a slower pace.
The way back via Köyceğiz, Muğla and Aydın
You leave Dalaman on the D-400 towards Köyceğiz, reach Muğla, then take the D-550 north via Yatağan and Çine to Aydın and the O-31 motorway into the airport zone. The mountain section is slower than the motorway, so a late start cannot be recovered with speed. Mid-route breaks at Muğla or Yatağan are the natural moments for coffee and a short walk.
Treating it as part of the holiday
The last day of a trip often feels wasted when most of it is spent in a car, but the route can be a pleasant farewell to the region. The route crosses several districts on the way north, and a stop at a roadside café in the middle lets you stretch your legs. Pack a small bag with water, sun cream and a book, and leave the large suitcases in the boot until you reach the airport.
Terminals and drop-off at ADB
The airport has separate international and domestic buildings. Check the terminal for your flight and let the driver know before the day. At the kerb you are at the departures entrance, with the check-in desks just inside, and any last-minute question can be answered on WhatsApp in English.
Bus, rental car or transfer?
Public transport from Dalaman to the airport would mean a coach to İzmir Otogar and then another journey across the city. It is a long day and rarely fits a flight time. A rental car means one person drives four hours, then has to return it before the flight. A private transfer from Dalaman to İzmir Airport lets everyone rest, and the pickup time you choose is the one the car keeps.
🛫 Dalaman to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 220 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Dalaman plan a pickup about 7¾–9½ hours before an international flight and 6¾–8½ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 04:30 and 06:15.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.
