Dalaman has an airport of its own, so a transfer from İzmir is an unusual trip, but it makes sense when your flight, fare or itinerary points to ADB. Your private car waits just outside the arrivals exit, the driver messages you on WhatsApp after you land, and the long drive south-east takes roughly four hours with a planned stop.

When it makes sense to land at ADB for Dalaman

Dalaman Airport sits about six kilometres from the town and serves Marmaris, Fethiye, Dalyan and Ölüdeniz, so for many guests it is the obvious gateway. This route is for the others: travellers whose airline or price points to İzmir, those linking a Dalaman stay to a trip through Ephesus or the north Aegean, or anyone whose flight was changed. Checking both airports before you buy a ticket can save a lot of road, but if you are already in İzmir, this is the clean way across.

The road from İzmir to Dalaman

The route starts on the O-31 toll motorway to Aydın. From there the D-550 climbs inland through Çine and Yatağan to Muğla, and the D-400 runs down to the coast through Köyceğiz into Dalaman. It is a mix of motorway, mountain road and plain, and a realistic time is around three and a half to four and a half hours depending on the season. We suggest a comfort stop at Muğla or Yatağan about halfway, and the driver will pick a quiet place.

Where guests usually go from here

Meeting your driver at Adnan Menderes

ADB has two buildings, one for international and one for domestic flights, each with its own arrivals exit. Look for your driver just outside the exit of the terminal you landed at. After landing you get a WhatsApp message with the exact point and a short video, and the driver can answer questions in English.

Is the bus an alternative?

There is no direct airport bus or train from ADB to Dalaman. Coaches leave İzmir Otogar towards Fethiye and pass by the Dalaman area, but the Otogar is in Bornova, across the city from the airport, and Dalaman has its own bus station that you would then need a taxi from. Door-to-door in a private car is the practical choice for a late arrival, for children, and for groups who would rather not carry luggage across several stations.

Keeping the day comfortable

Long road days go better with a plan: water in the seat pocket, a charged phone and a light jacket for the air conditioning. If anyone in your party is prone to car sickness, mention it when you book so the driver can keep the pace smooth through the bends.

Luggage and group size

A beach holiday often means several suitcases per family, plus bags of gear. The standard vehicle for this route is a Mercedes Vito for up to six passengers, and a Sprinter takes larger groups. Tell us what you carry when you book so the boot is not a surprise at the airport.

Planning a very long day

A late evening landing followed by four hours in a car is tiring, so think about where you want to sleep. Some guests book a hotel near Muğla for the first night and finish the trip the next morning; others go straight through and sleep at the destination. Either way, tell us the arrival time and hotel so the driver can plan the stops and let your reception know when to expect you.

🔁 Going home: Dalaman back to İzmir Airport

You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.

From Dalaman the drive back takes about 220 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 7¾–9½ hours before departure, and about 6¾–8½ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 08:30 and 10:15.

Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from İzmir Airport to Dalaman?

Allow around four hours, with a realistic range of three and a half to four and a half. A comfort stop is included in that plan.

Why not just fly to Dalaman Airport?

If a flight there suits you, it will save hours. Many guests choose İzmir for its flight choice or fares, or because their itinerary starts in the Aegean.

Can I be taken to Sarıgerme, Göcek or Dalyan?

Yes. Give us the hotel or address when booking, and the driver will take you to the door. The final stretch may add a little time beyond Dalaman town.

Where do I meet the driver at the airport?

At the arrivals exit of the terminal you used, on the outside. The driver follows up on WhatsApp after landing with the exact point and a video of the route to it.

Is there a bus from İzmir to Dalaman?

Intercity coaches run from İzmir Otogar towards Fethiye and pass the Dalaman area, but they do not start at the airport. A private transfer avoids the changes.

What if my flight is late?

Your flight is tracked and the driver adjusts. Traffic or flight delays carry no extra charge.
