Marmaris at the end of the road
Marmaris sits at the head of a deep natural harbour, which is why it became both a resort and a port for ferries to the Greek islands of Rhodes and Symi. The castle above the old centre was rebuilt in 1522 for Süleyman the Magnificent's campaign against Rhodes and now houses a museum, and Netsel Marina lies right beside it. The neighbouring resort of İçmeler has largely merged with the town along the western side of the bay.
The drive from İzmir to the southern Aegean
Out of the airport zone your driver takes the O-31 toll motorway to Aydın, then the D-550 inland past Çine and Yatağan to Muğla. From Muğla the D-400 runs south to the coast and into Marmaris. Typical time is between three hours fifteen and four hours, and the summer weekend crush can lengthen the last section. A comfort stop around Yatağan or Muğla splits the ride into two manageable halves.
Which part of town are you heading for?

- İçmeler, on the coast road at the far end of the bay.

Meeting the driver after landing at ADB

Drop-off in the old town and on the waterfront
The streets around the castle and parts of the waterfront are pedestrian. Cars stop on the road behind the seafront or at the marina entrance, and the driver will tell you where the nearest stop is. For hotels along the bay or in İçmeler the car usually reaches the entrance on the coast road. Send the hotel's name and a map pin if you have one, and the driver will set the navigation ahead of your arrival.
Onward to the islands
Many guests treat Marmaris as a base for the Greek islands, with ferries to Rhodes and Symi leaving from the harbour. Ferry times change by season and day, so check the operator's schedule first. Coach or taxi, and where private fits
Frequent intercity coaches leave İzmir Otogar for Marmaris, which is the cheapest way to cover the distance on paper, but it means first reaching the Otogar from the airport and then arriving at the Marmaris bus station. Taxis will do the full run if you negotiate. A private transfer from İzmir Airport to Marmaris means no changes after a long flight, and one agreed pickup instead of several connections.
🔁 Going home: Marmaris back to İzmir Airport

Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
