Working back from your flight time
The return leg to Adnan Menderes takes 95 to 120 minutes in normal conditions, because it runs down the D-240 and D-550 to the North Aegean Motorway (O-33), then across İzmir on the Ring Road (O-30). The last part, through the city, is the unpredictable one: the ring road can slow badly in the weekday rush hours. For an international flight, a pickup about five hours before departure is a sensible rule, and for a domestic flight, about four. For a morning flight, that means an early start, so settle the hotel bill the evening before.
Leaving the old quarter
Bergama's old Ottoman quarter has narrow lanes, and a car cannot always reach the door of a small hotel or guesthouse near the Red Basilica and the museum. The driver then waits at the nearest accessible street, and you walk the last stretch with your bags. Tell us the guesthouse name and send a map pin, and we will say in advance where the car will stand. If you finish at the Asklepion or the acropolis, give us that as the pickup and we will check the road access.
Which terminal at Adnan Menderes?
ADB has an International Terminal and a separate Domestic Terminal. Your driver drops you at the departures entrance of the one your flight uses, so mention it when you book. After a long drive from the north, arriving at the right door matters more than shaving ten minutes off the schedule.
Buses, and why they rarely suit a flight
Regional buses and minibuses run from Bergama Otogar to İzmir Otogar, about two hours on the fastest services. From the Otogar you still need to reach the airport, by an İZBAN connection, which means a change. No Havaş line serves Bergama. For anyone with a fixed check-in time, the two legs and the waiting between them leave little margin.
Fitting Pergamon into your last day
With an evening flight you can still visit the acropolis in the morning, as long as the pickup time is set by the check-in time rather than the other way round. The acropolis hill rises 335 metres, and the Asklepion, about three kilometres to its south, is the other main site, so tell the driver which one you finish at. Do not leave the pickup to the last minute: the road to İzmir is long, and there is no quick alternative if you miss the car. For a morning flight, say goodbye to Pergamon the evening before.
If time is short, the Red Basilica stands in the town itself, so it fits into a gap before the car arrives, while the Asklepion and the acropolis each need a longer visit.

🛫 Bergama to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 100 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Bergama plan a pickup about 5¼–6 hours before an international flight and 4¼–5 hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
