A flight from Adnan Menderes Airport after a stay in Dikili means a drive of nearly two hours, so the day needs a plan. Your driver picks you up at your hotel or pension at the time you choose, and takes the coast road and the motorway south to the departures entrance, leaving a comfortable margin.
✅ What's Included
Counting the hours back from your flight
From Dikili the road to ADB takes roughly an hour and a half to two hours. That is a lot to squeeze into a morning, so work backwards: start from the airline's check-in time, take away the drive, and then take away a safety buffer for the coast road, which gets busier on summer weekends. For an early flight, many guests prefer to leave in the dark rather than risk a late start; for an afternoon flight, a calm breakfast and a mid-morning pickup works well.
Leaving from the seafront or from a beach site
Hotels and pensions along the Dikili seafront are easy to reach, and the driver can stop right outside. Holiday sites near Bademli and the beaches south of town sometimes sit down narrow lanes, so be ready at the entrance and send a map pin if the address is not obvious. Staying in Çandarlı or another village of the district is fine, as long as you name it when booking.
Last look at Lesbos
If you can, schedule a final coffee in town before the pickup, not after it. A driver who is held up for twenty minutes costs you buffer you may need later.
The way back by public transport
Honestly, public transport is cumbersome here. Intercity buses link Dikili with İzmir Otogar, taking around 1 h 35 min at best, and Dikili is also linked by bus to Bergama. From the otogar you still have to reach the airport, by İZBAN or a taxi. No Havaş line serves Dikili. For one person with a small bag and a flexible flight, the bus can work. For a family, a baby, a tight connection or a very early check-in, a private pickup at your door is simpler.
Route and terminal
The driver takes the coast road via Çandarlı, then the North Aegean Motorway (O-33), a toll road, and the İzmir Ring Road (O-30) towards Gaziemir. If conditions are poor, the D-550 offers an alternative. At the airport, the international and domestic terminals are separate buildings; check your boarding pass and tell the driver which one, and you are dropped at its departures entrance. Our drivers speak English and can answer a call or WhatsApp video message about the pickup.
- Pack your passports and tickets in your hand luggage before the van is loaded.
- Mention car seats for children when you book.
Practical tips for departure day
On a long drive you are better off with a light breakfast, a charged phone and a short check of your boarding pass for the terminal number. If you travel with young children, tell us in advance so the pace and the stop suit them. At the airport, the driver helps carry the bags to the departures door, and you are free to head straight for the check-in desk.
🛫 Dikili to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 105 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Dikili plan a pickup about 5¼–6¼ hours before an international flight and 4¼–5¼ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 07:45 and 08:45.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.
