Heading home from Altınova means a drive of about two hours to Adnan Menderes Airport, mostly down a motorway you will barely notice. We collect you from your holiday house or pension at the time you choose, load the bags and have you at the correct departures entrance with comfortable time before check-in.

Picking a pickup time
Altınova is one of the nearer beach areas of the north Aegean to ADB, so the margin required is smaller than from Bodrum or the Edremit gulf. A drive of roughly two to two and a half hours, plus around three hours at the airport for an international flight, makes a noon departure realistic for an evening plane. Morning flights are possible too: book a pickup in the small hours rather than gambling on the road.
Ready at the right place
Many visitors rent a summer house or stay on a holiday site here, and exits are not always obvious. Decide where the car will wait: the front gate of the complex is usually easiest, since the lanes inside can be tight. Hand over keys and clear the fridge before the driver arrives, so that the final minutes are not spent locking up.
Heading south
- The D-550 south from Altınova, passing the Dikili turn-off.
- The O-33 North Aegean toll motorway, where the trip makes up most time.
- The İzmir ring road to Gaziemir and the airport.
The coast road can stall on Sunday afternoons in July and August. You are not charged extra for traffic, but you do want the buffer.
Terminal check
ADB has an international building and a separate domestic one. Check your airline ticket and tell the driver, who pulls up at the right departures entrance.
Public transport, if you must
The cheap way is a coach from the Altınova stop to İzmir Otogar, then a city bus or taxi to İZBAN at Halkapınar and the train to the airport station in front of the domestic terminal. It works in daylight but needs several transfers, and the ESHOT airport buses only run at night. With suitcases, a private transfer from the door is simpler.
🛫 Altınova to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 115 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Altınova plan a pickup about 5½–6½ hours before an international flight and 4½–5½ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 07:30 and 08:30.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.
