Altınova is the beach town on the D-550 just over the İzmir–Balıkesir provincial line, close enough to İzmir for a two-hour drive from Adnan Menderes Airport. A private driver meets you outside the arrivals exit, follows your flight, and takes the motorway north to your summer house or small hotel.

Altınova in Ayvalık, not Altınoluk
The name is easily confused with Altınoluk, a resort on the Gulf of Edremit much further north. This page is for Altınova, a coastal neighbourhood of Ayvalık district: it had its own municipality until 2014, and it lies on the İzmir–Çanakkale road right after the Dikili turn-off. If your booking says Altınoluk, use the separate Altınoluk page instead.
What kind of place it is
Altınova is mostly summer houses, holiday complexes and small pensions strung along long sandy beaches, with olive groves behind. About 16,000 people live here all year, and the number rises sharply in summer. Off the shore there is a sand islet reached by a 450-metre pedestrian bridge, a popular walk at the end of the day.
The route north
From the airport you join the İzmir ring road (O-30) to the Koyundere junction, then the O-33 North Aegean toll motorway as far as its northern end near Çandarlı. The D-550 takes over for the last leg past the Dikili turn-off. Plan on about two to two and a half hours; summer weekends can be slower on the D-550, and a delayed flight does not change the price.
- An evening landing suits this route: most of it is toll motorway, and the coast road comes only at the end.
- Ask your driver for a short stop if you have children or want a coffee on the way.
- Large families or friends sharing a rented house can book a Sprinter.
Finding the right gate
Most places here have street access, but some holiday sites have gated entrances. Send the site name, the house number and a map pin, and, for gated complexes, the manager's phone number. After landing your driver writes on WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and a short video, and waits just outside the arrivals exit of your terminal.
Public transport options
No Havaş or train goes to Altınova. Intercity coaches from İzmir Otogar towards Ayvalık and Çanakkale list Altınova as a stop, but you must first get from the airport to the Otogar, for example by İZBAN to Halkapınar and a city bus or taxi. At night only ESHOT buses run from the airport.
🔁 Going home: Altınova back to İzmir Airport
You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
From Altınova the drive back takes about 115 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 5½–6½ hours before departure, and about 4½–5½ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 11:30 and 12:30.
Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
