Cunda, also called Alibey Island, is reached from İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport by motorway, the old coast road and finally a causeway across the water. A private driver meets you just outside arrivals, tracks your flight and carries you to a stone guesthouse or harbour hotel, so the last stretch of narrow streets is no one's problem but ours.
✅ What's Included
From the arrivals exit to the north Aegean
The route leaves the airport area on the İzmir ring road and then takes the O-33 North Aegean toll motorway, which ends near Çandarlı. After that the D-550 İzmir–Çanakkale road runs through the olive country north to Ayvalık. Typical journey time is about two hours twenty to two hours fifty, and the D-550 slows noticeably on summer weekends and public holidays. We charge nothing extra for traffic or a late flight.
Crossing to the island
Cunda is the largest of the Ayvalık Islands and lies about 7 km beyond Ayvalık centre. A causeway through Lale Island and the strait bridge connect it to the mainland, so there is only one way in. In summer the approach road queues on warm evenings; arriving earlier in the day makes the last half-hour much calmer.
A small island with small streets
The island town is a cluster of old stone houses around the harbour. Poroselene bay lies to the north, there are whitewashed windmills on the heights, and the restored Taxiarchis church has become a museum named after Rahmi M. Koç. Most places to stay are small hotels and guesthouses around the harbour and the old quarter, with a few along the bays.
- The harbour-front and old-town lanes are narrow and crowded on summer evenings.
- Drivers stop at the nearest point the vehicle can reach and help with luggage from there.
- Always give the full address, ideally with a map pin from your host.
What happens after you land
Go to the arrivals exit of the terminal you land in. The driver messages you on WhatsApp with the precise spot and a short video, then waits outside. Your vehicle will be a Mercedes Vito for small parties, a V-Class for VIP bookings or a Sprinter for groups.
Without a transfer
There is no direct bus. The public route is a coach from İzmir Otogar to Ayvalık, followed by a local bus or, in season, a boat to Cunda, and getting to the Otogar from the airport is a separate trip in its own right. That is a lot of changes after a flight.
🔁 Going home: Cunda back to İzmir Airport
You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
From Cunda the drive back takes about 150 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 6¼–7½ hours before departure, and about 5¼–6½ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 10:30 and 11:45.
Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take from İzmir Airport to Cunda?
Expect roughly two hours twenty to two hours fifty, with more on summer weekends. A late flight or slow traffic never adds to the price.
Can the car go all the way to my hotel on the island?
Usually as close as the streets allow. The old-town lanes are narrow, so the driver stops at the nearest accessible point if needed.
Is Cunda the same as Ayvalık?
Cunda is an island that is joined to Ayvalık by road, about 7 km from the town centre. If you stay in Ayvalık town or Sarımsaklı instead, tell us when booking.
Is there a boat from the airport side?
No. Boats cross from Ayvalık town to Cunda in season, but you would still have to get from the airport to Ayvalık first.
Where will the driver meet me?
Just outside the arrivals exit of your terminal, with the exact spot sent by WhatsApp after you land.
Can I cancel?
Yes, you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup.
