Çandarlı sits on the far northern shore of its gulf, in the opposite direction from the Selçuk and Kuşadası coast that most ADB passengers head for. A private transfer from İzmir Airport (ADB) takes the northern motorway straight there. Your driver waits just outside the arrivals exit and messages you on WhatsApp after landing.
✅ What's Included
Heading north from Gaziemir
Leaving Adnan Menderes Airport, the driver works round the city on the İzmir Ring Road (O-30) and joins the North Aegean Motorway (O-33), which runs up the coast to its northern end. A connector road built for the planned Çandarlı port and the local road 35-81 then bring you into town. Without traffic this is about an hour and a half; the ring road at the start is where traffic is most likely to slow you. Summer weekend evenings can be slower, since the coast is a popular escape for people from the city.
What waits at the end of the road
Çandarlı is a fishing community that turns into a summer resort, mostly for Turkish families, and its population nearly doubles in the season. It is a neighbourhood of Dikili district, facing Aliağa across the gulf. The landmark is Çandarlı Castle: the Genoese restored it in the 14th century, Grand Vizier Çandarlı Halil Pasha had it rebuilt in the 15th, and it opened to visitors after restoration work in 2009–2014. The ruins of ancient Pitane lie just outside the town.
Getting to your pension or summer house
The centre is compact. A car can stop on the seafront road and near the castle, so the last few hundred metres are rarely a problem. Accommodation here is mostly small hotels, pensions and summer houses, so send the driver the name of the place and, for a house, a map pin. On summer evenings the front is busy and the van may have to stop a short walk from the door.
Taxi or transfer from the airport
There is no direct public transport from ADB to Çandarlı, and no Havaş coach goes there. Buses on the İzmir–Dikili line list Çandarlı as a stop, but they leave from the city side, so you would first have to get from the airport into İzmir with bags after a flight. A street taxi can make the run, though you would be agreeing the fare at the rank. With a pre-booked private transfer the price per vehicle is shown before you pay, and the driver is already tracking your flight.
After landing at ADB
Adnan Menderes has two separate terminal buildings, and the driver waits just outside the arrivals exit of the one you use. One quirk matters if you connect through Istanbul or another Turkish airport: a flight that arrives from abroad via a domestic connection lands at the Domestic Terminal, yet you are directed to the International Arrivals building for baggage claim and customs. Tell the driver on WhatsApp where you ended up and the video will show the way. With about ninety minutes of road ahead, a drink and a stop at the washrooms before you get into the car is worth the extra five minutes. Reply with your number of bags so the driver knows how the luggage will fit.
- Choose the Vito for up to six passengers, or ask about a Sprinter if the group is larger.
- Landing after dark? Tell your pension your expected arrival time so someone is there to let you in.

🔁 Going home: Çandarlı back to İzmir Airport
You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
From Çandarlı the drive back takes about 90 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 5–5¾ hours before departure, and about 4–4¾ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 12:15 and 13:00.
Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
