The drive north from ADB to Aliağa
Aliağa lies on the opposite side of the city from the airport, so the first half of the trip is spent getting across İzmir. From Gaziemir your driver joins the İzmir Ring Road (O-30) to Çiğli, then follows the North Aegean Motorway (O-33) to the Aliağa exit, with the older D-550 running alongside as a fallback. In light traffic the journey takes about 70 minutes. Weekday rush hours on the ring road and shift changes near the plants make 70 to 85 minutes a more realistic range.

Who travels to Aliağa, and where they end up
Aliağa is one of Türkiye's main heavy-industry and port districts. The İzmir refinery, Petkim, the STAR refinery, oil and bulk-cargo ports and the country's only official ship-recycling zone are all located here, so many passengers on this route are travelling for work. The town itself has a seafront and a centre of ordinary streets, where a car can usually stop right at the hotel entrance.
The industrial sites are a different matter. Refinery, port and ship-recycling gates are controlled, so the driver sets you down at the gate or the reception building rather than driving in. İZBAN train, bus or private transfer to Aliağa?
Public transport exists and is worth knowing about. Aliağa is the northern terminus of the İZBAN commuter line, and trains on the Aliağa–Cumaovası pattern call at Adnan Menderes Havalimanı station, so no change is needed. The price of that simplicity is time, because the train calls at many stations on the way. ESHOT city buses also serve Aliağa from İzmir, but we found no Havaş coach on this route.
For anyone carrying equipment cases, a laptop bag and a suitcase, or landing late, a private transfer is the easier choice. The driver brings you to the door in one go, which matters when the next morning starts with a site induction.
Practical notes for arrivals
- The İZBAN timetable does not cover the small hours, so a landing after midnight is best handled with a booked driver who is already tracking your flight.

Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
