Leaving Karaburun for a flight means starting early. A private car collects you from your pension, bay house or the harbour at the time we agree, handles the narrow coast road and delivers you at the departures entrance of your terminal at Adnan Menderes airport. The journey takes around an hour and a half, so the plan matters more than the pace.
✅ What's Included
Counting backwards from your flight
From the peninsula to ADB is a drive of roughly 90 minutes in good conditions and up to two hours when traffic builds. Add your airline's check-in deadline, then add a margin. In summer the Çeşme motorway can be busier than you would expect for a peninsula this quiet, so we help set the pickup time when you book, and the driver can still be flexible if you change flights.
The road back: winding first, motorway later
The first hour is the part you notice. The route leaves Karaburun and runs south along the gulf coast on the D-505, through Mordoğan, with bends where the driver will keep the speed down. Near Urla it joins the O-32 İzmir–Çeşme Motorway, a toll road, then the ring road past Gaziemir to the airport. If you are prone to car sickness, say so; a seat at the front helps on the first section.
Where you will be picked up
Pensions, summer houses and bay-side apartments are often reached by small side roads. We need the exact name and a map pin. If your lane cannot take a Vito or Sprinter, you meet the car at a gate or the nearest wider road. Leaving from the harbour area of Karaburun is simpler: there are normal streets and fish restaurants nearby, so you can have breakfast before the car arrives.
Is a bus an alternative?
Technically, yes. ESHOT line 761 runs Karaburun to Urla via Mordoğan, from there you take 984 or 684 towards Fahrettin Altay, then the metro and İZBAN to Adnan Menderes Havalimanı station. It is a long chain and one missed connection can cost the flight. For an early departure it is not realistic. A private transfer is the dependable way to reach the terminal on time.
Terminal check before you leave
The airport has separate international and domestic buildings. Tell us your flight and we drop you at the correct departures entrance, not just somewhere near.
Things to prepare the evening before
- Pack bags by the door so loading takes two minutes.
- Settle any bills with your host the evening before, so the morning stays calm.
- Keep passports and boarding passes in your hand luggage, not in the boot.
- Agree on a comfort stop if you have children or a long wait at the gate is unlikely.
Why we plan the start generously
Karaburun's coast road gives you no way round a slow lorry. The first narrow stretch means one slow vehicle can set the pace for a long line behind it, and you cannot overtake on every bend. A generous start costs you an extra half hour of coffee at the airport; a tight one can cost the flight. We therefore prefer to agree a pickup time that leaves room for a slow tractor, a short comfort stop for children, and the driver confirms the plan with you on WhatsApp the evening before.
🛫 Karaburun to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 85 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Karaburun plan a pickup about 5–5¾ hours before an international flight and 4–4¾ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 08:15 and 09:00.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to drive from Karaburun to İzmir Airport?
Around 90 minutes in good conditions, sometimes close to two hours. The first section along the coast is narrow and winding.
How early should I be picked up for an international flight?
Count back from your airline's check-in deadline, then add the full drive time and a cushion. We can suggest a pickup time when you book.
Can you pick me up from a remote bay house?
Yes, if you give us the property name and a map pin. If the lane is too narrow for the vehicle, the driver waits at the nearest suitable spot.
Is there an easy bus option to the airport?
No. The public route needs ESHOT buses to Urla and Fahrettin Altay, a metro ride and an İZBAN train, which is hard with luggage and risky for early flights.
Which terminal do you take me to?
The terminal your flight uses. ADB's international and domestic terminals are separate buildings.
Is it worth stopping on the way?
A short stop around Urla can break the journey, especially with children. Tell the driver if you want one.
