Foça is relaxing, and the road out is the one thing that is not, if you leave it late. Your driver picks you up at your guesthouse or hotel at the hour you set, loads your bags, and drives the Foça road and the main route south to Adnan Menderes Airport, finishing at the departures entrance.

How much time to leave for the airport
The drive from Foça to ADB takes about 70 to 95 minutes. The weekend rhythm of the coast matters: many İzmir residents drive out on Friday and back on Sunday, so the Sunday afternoon road is slower than a Tuesday morning. If your flight is on a Sunday evening or the end of a holiday, choose a pickup earlier than the arithmetic suggests. If it is a weekday morning, you can leave later and still arrive with time to spare.
Which pickup point in Foça?
Foça means two places: the old harbour town and Yeni Foça, a resort some 20 km to the north. Tell us which you are leaving from; the route and the timing differ slightly. In the old town, the narrow lanes near the two harbours mean the vehicle may wait on the harbour-front road or the nearest accessible street. Have your cases at the door ten minutes before the agreed time and the handover takes seconds.
A last morning in the harbour
Foça is a place for slow breakfasts at the water's edge. It is tempting to extend them. Set the pickup for the time you actually plan to leave, and tell your host the check-out time, so nothing holds the car up.
Road choices on the way back
Going back, the driver takes the Foça road (35-79), joins the Çanakkale road (D-550) and rejoins the ring road before the airport. Alternatively, the toll North Aegean Motorway (O-33) can be used from its Foça exit. The driver decides on the day based on traffic, and extra time caused by traffic never costs you more.
Bus and ferry options, honestly
Regional buses and minibuses run between Foça and İzmir Otogar, but you then need a second leg to the airport. A seasonal summer ferry to İzmir has operated since 2015, but we have not confirmed its current timetable, and it would not take you to the airport anyway. For a flight, where a miss has a real cost, a pickup that goes door to door is the safer plan.
At the airport
ADB has two separate terminal buildings, international and domestic. Tell the driver which one is on your ticket, or write to us before the pickup if you are unsure. You are dropped at the departures entrance of that building. English-speaking drivers can also send a short video message on WhatsApp so you know where to stand.
Luggage and children
Old-town guesthouses often have steps and no lift, so keep your luggage to what you can carry down. Families with small children should mention car seats at booking. Bring a jumper for the car, because air conditioning can feel cold after a warm morning on the harbour, and keep drinks within reach for the ride.
Guesthouse hosts in Foça are used to guests leaving early, so ask yours to leave breakfast out or boxed the night before.
🛫 Foça to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 85 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Foça plan a pickup about 5–5½ hours before an international flight and 4–4½ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 08:30 and 09:00.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.
