Karaburun is a long way from the terminals, and that is part of its charm: it is a quiet peninsula of bays, fishing boats and narcissus fields. A driver who follows your flight collects you outside the arrivals exit and drives you there in one go, so there are no buses to puzzle out with luggage. Expect about an hour and a half on the road.
✅ What's Included
Why the drive to Karaburun is longer than it looks
On a map Karaburun looks like a short hop across the gulf. By road it is a trip of around 90 minutes in good conditions and a little under two hours when things are slow. From Adnan Menderes airport the car joins the ring road (O-30), takes the O-32 İzmir–Çeşme Motorway, a toll road, to the Karaburun junction near Urla, and then follows the D-505 north along the gulf coast through Mordoğan. The final stretch is narrow and winding, and the driver slows down for it.
What waits at the end of the road
The district covers most of the Karaburun Peninsula, north of the Çeşme resorts. Farming, fishing and livestock still count for more than tourism. The coast is cut by bays with pebble and sand beaches and clear water that divers like, and every year the narcissus fields are celebrated with a festival. In the centre the harbour, or İskele, has a fishing shelter and fish restaurants. There are only a handful of hotels, so many guests stay in guesthouses, small pensions or summer houses, or in Mordoğan, the coastal neighbourhood on the way in.
Giving the right address in a place of bays
Many of the beaches and houses sit at the end of small side roads, and street names are not always on the signs. Send us the name of the bay, pension or house plus a map pin. Your driver can phone your host if the last turn is unclear, and speaks English with you. Because the roads are narrow, a Vito or a Sprinter will sometimes stop at a gate and let you walk the final stretch.
Public transport: possible but slow
Nothing runs direct from the terminals. The public chain goes İZBAN and İzmir Metro to Fahrettin Altay, ESHOT line 984 or 684 to Urla, then line 761 from Urla to Karaburun via Mordoğan. That is several changes, and the timetable decides your evening. Havaş coaches from the airport run towards Urla on the Çeşme route, but the last leg to Karaburun still needs another bus or a car. For most arriving guests, taxi or transfer is a straight comparison of effort: a taxi can do the run, but a booked car is arranged before you fly, with the pickup point and the driver's WhatsApp contact already in hand.
Making a long drive comfortable
- Arrive hungry? Ask the driver for a short stop around Urla, where there are cafes and restaurants, before the winding part.
- Travelling with children: tell us ages so we bring the right seats, and keep water and snacks within reach for the last stretch.
- Prone to car sickness: sit at the front on the narrow bends.
- Late landing: the roads beyond Mordoğan are dark, so we agree the exact arrival point with your host.
Your first evening on the peninsula
After a long flight and a long drive, most guests want to eat quickly. The fish restaurants around the İskele in Karaburun centre are the obvious choice, and Mordoğan has its own beaches for a quieter stay. Tell your host the landing time before you travel, so that someone is at the gate if you arrive after dark.
🔁 Going home: Karaburun back to İzmir Airport
You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
From Karaburun the drive back takes about 85 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 5–5¾ hours before departure, and about 4–4¾ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 12:15 and 13:00.
Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the drive from İzmir Airport to Karaburun?
Roughly 90 minutes in good conditions, and up to about two hours when traffic is heavy or in the busy summer season. The last section is narrow and winding.
Is there a direct bus from the airport to Karaburun?
No. Public transport needs several changes through Fahrettin Altay and Urla, so most guests prefer a private car.
Can the driver stop on the way?
Yes. A short break around Urla is common before the winding coastal road.
Will the driver find our pension or bay house?
With the property name and a map pin, yes. For tiny side roads the driver can phone your host, and may stop at a gate if the lane is too narrow.
Do you cover Mordoğan as well?
Yes, Mordoğan lies on the same road and is a Karaburun neighbourhood. Name it in the booking and the route is the same up to that point.
Who waits if the plane is late?
The driver tracks your flight and waits for your real landing time. There is no extra charge for traffic or flight delays.
