Round the head of the gulf and up the peninsula

The route leaves the airport via the İzmir Ring Road (O-30) and takes the O-32 İzmir–Çeşme Motorway, a toll road, to the Karaburun junction (K5). From there the D-505 runs north along the coast. Typical journey time is 75 to 95 minutes, and the last stretch can be slower on summer weekends. The coastal road is winding in places, so expect it to feel longer than the distance suggests.

What Mordoğan is

Mordoğan is a coastal neighbourhood of Karaburun district, about 19 km south of Karaburun centre, and was its own municipality until 2012. It is a summer-house resort with a string of beaches: Kocakum, İskele, Yeni Liman, Korsan and Sulucadere, and coves such as Manal. There are few hotels, only small hotels and pensions near the seafront and İskele, so most visitors stay in summer houses.

Arriving at a summer house or pension

Many addresses here are houses rather than hotels, with no reception desk, so send the owner's phone number and a location pin in the booking notes. Beaches lie along the D-505, where cars can stop at the roadside. In the centre, part of Atatürk Caddesi, between Cumhuriyet Meydanı and 124 Sokak, has been closed to traffic in the daytime, so the driver may use the nearest open street.

No direct bus: the honest picture

Public transport is a long chain. İZBAN and the İzmir Metro take you to Fahrettin Altay, ESHOT 984 or 684 carries you to Urla, and ESHOT 761 (Karaburun–Urla) stops in Mordoğan. With luggage, after a flight, that is several hours and three changes. For most arrivals a private car is the practical option.

Shops near the seafront close early out of season, so if the house has no food, ask in the booking notes about a short shopping stop in Urla.

Before you fly

Why people choose Mordoğan

The appeal is the opposite of a big resort: sea, pebble and sand coves, quiet evenings and no queue for a table. That also means few services, so bring what you need for the first night and ask the owner whether the house has linen, bread and water on arrival. If you plan to see Karaburun centre or the peninsula's other bays by car later, tell us and we can quote a separate day trip.

The D-505 is an unlit coastal road in places and slower after dark, so an evening landing means a calm, unhurried last hour. Your driver knows the bends and will not rush them.

For families with small children, the winding coastal stretch can upset a stomach after a flight, so say so in the booking notes and we will plan a short break.

🔁 Going home: Mordoğan back to İzmir Airport

You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.

From Mordoğan the drive back takes about 75 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 4¾–5¼ hours before departure, and about 3¾–4¼ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 12:45 and 13:15.

Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
