Manisa is close enough to İzmir that people forget how much the city traffic matters when a flight is waiting. Your private driver collects you from your hotel or address in Şehzadeler at the time you choose, crosses the mountains and takes you to the right departures entrance at Adnan Menderes.
✅ What's Included
Leave earlier than the map suggests
The drive is usually 50 to 70 minutes, but the unpredictable part is İzmir. The D-565 comes down into the Bornova side of the city, and from there you cross to Gaziemir through the same roads used by commuters. At weekday rush hours, the second half of the trip can take longer than the first. For an international flight, count back from the airline's check-in time and add at least half an hour of your own, because a pickup that is a little early costs nothing while a missed check-in costs the whole trip.
Pickup from a Manisa address
City streets in Şehzadeler are ordinary, and the car can normally stop at the door. Give the street and building number so the driver finds you quickly. During the Mesir Macunu Festival on 21 to 24 March, the area around the Sultan Mosque is crowded, so be ready to walk a short way to the car.
Over Sabuncubeli and across İzmir
From Manisa the road passes along Mimar Sinan Bulvarı, runs up the D-565 and goes through the Sabuncubeli Tunnel, opened in 2018, before descending towards Bornova. Then comes the cross-city stretch to Gaziemir, where the airport stands. No toll motorway is involved.
The ride is short enough that many guests treat it as a morning errand, but the airport is on the far side of İzmir from Manisa. From Bornova the car continues through the city to Gaziemir, so the tunnel is not the end of the journey and the cross-city stretch is the part to leave a margin for.
Which building at ADB?
There is an international building and a domestic one, side by side. Your driver drops you at the departures entrance of the one you name in the booking.
Coach, Havaş or train from Manisa
You can reach İzmir by intercity coach or by TCDD train from Manisa station to Basmane, but that leaves you in the city, not at the airport. From Basmane, regional services are listed running to the airport station, according to published timetables. Havaş also lists a line between the airport and Manisa with very few departures, so check havas.net before counting on it. When an early flight meets a rush hour, a private car is the least fragile plan.
Before the driver arrives
- Settle your hotel bill the evening before.
- Keep passports and boarding passes in hand luggage.
- Have the building number ready for the driver.
For an early flight, pick a pickup time that gets you through the Bornova side of İzmir before the morning peak. A Vito covers up to six passengers with seven bags; for a larger group, choose the Sprinter.
Early starts from Manisa
Manisa is a business and university city, so many of our pickups here are early starts for flights to Istanbul or beyond. Choose the pickup time at booking and add a note if the building has a gate code or a rear entrance.
🛫 Manisa to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 60 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Manisa plan a pickup about 4¼–4¾ hours before an international flight and 3¼–3¾ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 09:15 and 09:45.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.

No. The usual route uses the D-565 over the Sabuncubeli Tunnel.
