Flying home from İzmir while staying at Akbük Bay means a drive of close to two hours before check-in even begins. A private transfer to İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) picks you up at your estate or hotel on the bay and delivers you to the departures entrance of your terminal.

Leave early, and rest on the way
With roughly one hour fifty to two hours twenty of road, the pickup should be at least five hours before an international departure, and six on a summer weekend. That is early, so pack the night before. Long mornings are easier with a plan: ask the driver for a stop at Söke or another convenient point, especially with young children.
From the bay to the motorway
The driver leaves Akbük on the local road, joins the D-525 towards Söke, and takes the İzmir–Aydın Motorway (O-31) north from the Germencik junction. Summer Sundays are the days to avoid squeezing: the tens of thousands of holiday-home owners go back at the same time. An early start beats the queue.
Gated estates at departure
Estates along the bay often have barriers and a guard. Tell the guard the evening before about the early car, and give the driver the estate name and block. In a large complex it helps to wait at the entrance gate rather than outside your building.
Consider the other airport
For future trips, remember that Milas–Bodrum Airport is only about 60 km from Akbük. It may suit shorter stays, while İzmir is worth the longer ride when flight options or fares are better, which is the case for many international routes.
At ADB
The international and domestic terminals are separate buildings. Check which one your airline uses, tell the driver, and the car stops at that departures entrance. Keep passports in your hand bag, not the boot.
Sample departure times
For a 06:00 international flight, a pickup around 01:00 is about right, so the night before is really your last evening in Akbük. For a 13:00 flight, setting off around 07:00 to 08:00 lets you have breakfast and still keep the cushion. Add an hour on a summer Sunday. Tell us the flight number and we will suggest a time.
Check-in cut-offs
Airlines close check-in well before take-off, and the cut-off differs by carrier and route. Read the small print on your booking: on a two-hour ride the transfer is planned around the earliest time you may check in, not around the take-off time. If your ticket includes online check-in, complete it the day before to lower the pressure at the airport.
Closing up the house
Holiday-home guests have a closing routine: water off, shutters down, rubbish out, keys to the estate manager. Do it the evening before when the flight is early, so nothing is left to do while the car waits. Keep a phone charged for the WhatsApp updates on a two-hour ride.

The route passes through Söke and along the motorway, so a stop for food is easy. Take water from the house too, and some fruit or biscuits if children are in the car; a hungry child makes a long ride longer.

🛫 Akbük to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 105 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Akbük plan a pickup about 5¼–6¼ hours before an international flight and 4¼–5¼ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 07:45 and 08:45.

- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
