The way out of Altınoluk for a flight from İzmir Adnan Menderes is long, around three hours, so the trick is to leave with margin rather than speed. We collect you from your hotel, pension or summer house on the Gulf of Edremit, take the coast road and the motorway south, and drop you at the departures entrance of your terminal.

Starting from the Gulf of Edremit
From Altınoluk the car first runs east along the gulf, through the Edremit area, and then south on the D-550 past Burhaniye and Ayvalık. Allow roughly two hours fifty to three and a half hours overall. The Edremit stretch is the slowest part on summer mornings, with commuter and holiday traffic mixing in the same lanes.
Choosing the hour
With the journey this long and international check-in needing around three hours, a flight before midday is hard to reach in comfort from Altınoluk unless you set off in the small hours. Evening flights are the easy ones. If you must take an early flight, it can be wiser to spend the night near the airport; we can collect you from the resort the afternoon before.
Leaving the hillside
Hotels and pensions on the slope above the seafront can have narrow, steep access. Be ready with luggage at the nearest wide point, which you can confirm with us in advance, and the driver will meet you there. The seafront road fills in season, so avoid a pickup precisely at the evening promenade hour.
Down the coast
- Edremit, Burhaniye and the Ayvalık area on the D-550.
- South past Altınova and the Dikili turn-off to the O-33 toll motorway.
- The ring road to the airport in Gaziemir.

Terminals and alternatives
ADB has separate international and domestic buildings, so confirm which one your airline uses. Public transport means a coach from Altınoluk to İzmir Otogar and then a city link to the airport: possible by day, but long and with several changes. Remember the Havaş airport line to Manisa stops at the Otogar only twice a day, and the ESHOT buses from there run only at night.
🛫 Altınoluk to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 195 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Altınoluk plan a pickup about 7¼–8¾ hours before an international flight and 6¼–7¾ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 05:15 and 06:45.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.
