Heading home from the Gulf of Edremit means one long drive before check-in, so the pickup time matters far more than on a short city run. Working out your pickup time for a flight from ADB
Count backwards from check-in rather than from take-off. Start with a drive of about two and a half to three hours, add the time you want for bag drop and security, and then leave a cushion on top. On this route a slow lorry on the older coast road or a busy ring road at the İzmir end can easily cost a quarter of an hour, so most travellers add a comfortable margin to whatever the airline advises.
Enter your flight time when you book and pick a collection time that leaves room for a coffee stop. A lunchtime flight from Burhaniye means a very early start, and nobody enjoys doing that drive at the last minute.
A last-day checklist for the long drive
- Settle the hotel bill and any extras the evening before, so the morning is only about loading the car.
- Keep passports, boarding passes and your booking confirmation in hand luggage rather than in the boot.

Being collected in Ören or in town
Ören's beach streets are tight and crowded in the summer months, and a vehicle the size of a Vito cannot always reach the hotel entrance. If yours is on the seafront, expect the driver to wait at the nearest accessible corner and to contact you from there; have your bags at reception and ready to roll a few minutes early. Hotels in Burhaniye town sit on ordinary streets where the car can pull up outside.
The way back: D-550, O-33 and the ring road
The route reverses the journey north: the D-550 south past Ayvalık, then onto the toll O-33 North Aegean Motorway from the port area near Çandarlı, and finally the İzmir Ring Road round to Gaziemir, where the airport sits. The only real variable is the last stretch around İzmir, which is slower at weekday rush hours than on a Sunday night.
Which ADB building is yours?
Adnan Menderes airport has two adjacent buildings, one for international and one for domestic flights, and they are not interchangeable. Check your ticket, mention the terminal in your booking and the driver will stop at the right departures entrance. If you are unsure, the airline's app or e-ticket will name it.
Could you do this without a private car?
You can, but not quickly. Intercity coaches run from Burhaniye towards İzmir Otogar; from there you would still need a connection such as İZBAN from Halkapınar to reach the airport station. ESHOT's airport buses run only at night. That is several changes with luggage on the day you can least afford a missed link, which is why most guests choose a private transfer for this stretch.

The drive takes about 155 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Burhaniye plan a pickup about 6¼–7¾ hours before an international flight and 5¼–6¾ hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
