Özdere is a beach resort on the Aegean coast of Menderes district, closer to Kuşadası than to İzmir city. The İzmir Airport to Özdere transfer runs south for about an hour. Leaving Gaziemir, the car heads south through Menderes on the road to Gümüldür, reaches the coast there and then follows the Seferihisar–Selçuk coastal road east into Özdere. Count on 55 to 70 minutes, a little longer when the weekend crowds head for the beaches in July and August. The route is mostly two-lane roads rather than motorway, so a slow lorry can set the pace for a stretch.
A coastal resort with a summer population
Özdere was a municipality in its own right from 1979 until it was merged into Menderes in 2008, and its population swells several times over in summer. Çukuraltı and Kalemlik are among the beaches. Just east, near Ahmetbeyli, are the ruins of Klaros, an oracle sanctuary of Apollo, with the remains of ancient Notion close by; Kuşadası lies roughly 40 km away along the coast.
Finding your hotel in Özdere
Many guests stay in large all-inclusive resorts and holiday hotels strung along the shoreline of Özdere and towards Gümüldür, and in holiday sites and apartments behind the beaches. Most hotels sit on or just off the coastal road with their own entrance, so the car usually pulls up at the lobby. Give the hotel or site name, because several complexes share similar names, and beach areas can be busy on summer weekends.
Public transport to Özdere, honestly
There is no direct bus from the airport. The public route is İZBAN one stop to Cumaovası, then ESHOT 775 from Cumaovası Aktarma Merkezi to Özdere via Ahmetbeyli; ESHOT 778 links Özdere with Ürkmez along the coast. That works for a light-bag traveller who has time and a daytime arrival, but not at midnight after a charter flight.
A private car from the arrivals exit saves the change, and tracks your flight if the plane lands late.
Practical tips for resort arrivals
- Check-in at many resorts opens in the afternoon; early arrivals may have to wait for rooms.
- If you are continuing to Kuşadası later for the harbour or Ephesus, mention it and we can quote the onward leg.
- Families with children should tell us the ages in the booking notes.
Season and timing
Outside summer the resort is quiet, the road is empty and the drive is closer to 55 minutes. In July and August the same trip needs more patience, especially on weekends. Many hotels allow check-in only in the afternoon, so after a morning landing you may want to leave luggage at reception and walk along the beach first.
One vehicle price covers the whole family, so a party of five in a Mercedes Vito does not pay more than a couple.
If you are on a package holiday with a tour operator, the hotel name on your voucher is what we need, along with your flight number. Keep the voucher on your phone, because the driver may ask for the address. Operator vouchers sometimes list the resort under a brand name different from the one on the map.
🔁 Going home: Özdere back to İzmir Airport
You can book the way back in the same booking: choose a return trip on the booking form and enter the date and pickup time for your flight home. On the day, your driver waits at your hotel entrance or your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
From Özdere the drive back takes about 50 minutes without traffic, so for an international flight choose a pickup about 4¼–4½ hours before departure, and about 3¼–3½ hours before a domestic flight. For a flight at 18:00, that means a pickup between about 13:30 and 13:45.
Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
