Leaving Turgutreis for a flight from İzmir Adnan Menderes means setting off hours before check-in, because the road crosses the whole of the Muğla–Aydın corridor. We collect you at your accommodation at the time you choose, drive you to the departures entrance of the right terminal, and leave enough margin that the journey itself is not the worry.

Count backwards from take-off. Airlines generally want international passengers at check-in about three hours before departure, and the drive from the end of the Bodrum peninsula takes around three to three and three-quarter hours without trouble. Add a comfort stop and a cushion for the Milas–Bodrum road, and an afternoon flight usually means leaving Turgutreis in the early morning. Early starts from the peninsula
Hotels here are used to guests leaving before dawn; ask reception for a breakfast box the evening before. Bring your bags to the entrance, not the marina front, where stopping is awkward in summer and the vehicle will not be waiting. Anyone coming into town by sea from Kos should not plan a same-day ADB flight without checking both timetables carefully, as a late boat leaves no slack on a road this long.
What the journey looks like
- West-to-east across the peninsula, then south of Bodrum town towards Milas on the D-330.
- The D-525 past Lake Bafa and through Söke, a calm stretch where most passengers sleep.
- The O-31 toll motorway north from Germencik, then the airport area in Gaziemir.
Traffic pinches at the Bodrum junctions on summer mornings and again on Sunday afternoons, when holiday-makers head home. Delays of that kind carry no extra charge for you.
Drop-off at the right terminal
İzmir has an international terminal and a separate domestic one. Check your booking or ask the airline which building you depart from, and tell the driver; he will pull up at the departures entrance of that building. If you booked a connection through Istanbul, ask whether your first leg is domestic.
Why not Bodrum-Milas?
If your ticket says Bodrum-Milas, the airport is far nearer and you need a much shorter transfer. This page is for travellers whose flight leaves from İzmir, often because of cheaper fares or an onward route. Public transport is awkward: a minibus to Bodrum, a coach to İzmir Otogar, then a city connection to the airport.
🛫 Turgutreis to İzmir Airport: when to leave for your flight
The drive takes about 200 minutes without traffic. Most airlines ask you to be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic one, so from Turgutreis plan a pickup about 7¼–9 hours before an international flight and 6¼–8 hours before a domestic flight. Always follow your own airline’s advice.
Example: for an international flight at 14:00, book your pickup for between about 05:00 and 06:45.
- Pickup: you choose the pickup time when you book; your driver waits at your hotel entrance or at your address at that time and helps with your luggage.
- Drop-off: the departures floor of the terminal your flight leaves from: İzmir Airport has two separate buildings side by side, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.
- Traffic: İzmir traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings on the ring road and the roads into the airport; in summer the roads to and from Çeşme and Kuşadası are much slower at weekends and on public holidays, so leave earlier then.
- At the airport: Check on your ticket or in your airline’s app which terminal your flight leaves from and tell your driver, so you are dropped at the right building.
